KDP beginners: stop obsessing over finding the โperfect niche.โ
You know the routine:
โThis niche has too much competition.โ
โThis keyword has too few searches.โ
โMaybe I should find something nobody has discovered yet.โ
Then 3 weeks passโฆ
And you still havenโt published anything.
Hereโs the truth:
You probably donโt need a secret niche.
You need to understand the customer better than the average publisher.
Instead of spending all your time asking:
โIs this niche saturated?โ
Ask:
โข What is the buyer actually looking for?
โข What are existing books doing badly?
โข Can I create a better cover?
โข Can I make the product more useful?
โข Can I position it differently?
โข Would I personally choose my book over the competition?
Competition isnโt always the enemy.
Sometimes competition is proof that people are already spending money there.
The real problem is entering a competitive market with a product that looks exactly like everything else.
Research matters.
Keywords matter.
Niches matter.
But none of them can rescue a weak product.
Spend less time searching for the magical keyword with zero competitionโฆ
โฆand more time creating something people have a reason to choose.
You donโt have to be the only option.
You just need to become the better option.
Everyone tells you to read the 1-star reviews.
I prefer the 2s and 3s.
These readers were disappointed, but still found something worth praising.
They'll tell you what the book got right AND where it fell short.
Keep what worked.
Fix what didn't.
That's how you make a better book.
