To employees who had to work today before tomorrow’s national holiday: good on you for showing up.
To companies who had employees work today: I can’t express how easily you could’ve given your team a 4-day weekend, how little they wanna be working, & how unimportant work is.
Nearly every interview I’ve done w/moms this week has kids popping in to say hi, moms still in gym clothes and sweaty, calls from cars or closets (me too!), or a pause to make a snack.
Every man I’ve interviewed was in a quiet office space and was not interrupted once.
So many people grew up in homes where they couldn’t relax. They were called lazy or told to do something productive. Now, when they’re alone they still hear that voice and shame themselves into doing something “worthwhile.”
It’s time for us to move to a 32-hour work week with no loss in pay. We can reduce the stress level in our country and allow Americans to enjoy a better quality of life.
When you've been told for DECADES, that an English major or liberal arts degree is worthless and everyone should "learn to code," yeah, we're gonna end up with a society that thinks what writers do is easy and shouldn't be valued and AI is the solution. It's all connected!
Imagine I offered you, a rich-world resident, a pill w/ two effects.
1. It increases your disposable income by almost half.
2. It doubles your odds of dying in the next 365 days.
The avg American fills a lifetime prescription of this medication and takes the pill nightly.
How long people are married says nothing about the health of the marriage.
People who can’t stand to be in the same room spend decades together.
Some live double lives.
Some couples haven’t had a real conversation in 25 years.
Don’t idealize longevity.
Idealize relationships where you see mutual respect, admiration, and underneath it all: true friendship.
This nation was built on peaceful protest. No elected official should lose their job simply for raising their voice – especially when they’re doing it on behalf of our children.
