Marina Abramović's "Rhythm 0" remains one of the most disturbing and thought-provoking performance art experiments ever conducted.

During the 1974 performance, Abramović stood still for hours and allowed the audience to use objects placed on a table on her body, giving them complete freedom to decide what to do.

What began relatively calmly reportedly became increasingly disturbing as some audience members crossed boundaries and used objects in harmful ways.

The performance raised difficult questions about human behaviour, responsibility, group psychology and what can happen when people believe there are no consequences for their actions.

Rather than simply proving that people cannot be trusted, "Rhythm 0" is often discussed as a powerful exploration of power, consent, vulnerability and the behaviour of crowds.
