Today we mourn the passing of a great Somali poet. Aadan Tarabbi was a man of letters, an exceptional storyteller, and a veteran song-writer. His collection "Hangool" (2017) chronicles the life and work of the man.
He belongs to an unparalleled generation of Somali art
As Red Sea insecurity reshapes regional geopolitics, Somaliland's strategic relevance is increasingly being determined by security partnerships and maritime access rather than formal diplomatic recognition.
This analysis argues that "operational recognition" may be redefining the relationship between sovereignty, security, and regional order in the Horn of Africa.

Honored to host my dear friend President @Abdirahmanirro at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his historic State Visit to open Somaliland’s embassy in Jerusalem.
I’m proud of the privilege I had to write the first pages in the story of the Israel-Somaliland relationship.
This friendship exists not only between governments, but also in the hearts of our peoples.
We’ll continue strengthening it for the benefit of both countries!
A historic day for Israel-Africa relations, and a proud moment for our Institute.
Today, Our @msf2018 , CEO of the Israel-Africa Relations Institute (IARI), met with 𝐇.𝐄. @Abdirahmanirro 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝, during his landmark first visit to Israel, held at the President's Residence in Jerusalem.
This is more than a diplomatic milestone. It is a moment that captures the spirit of everything our Institute works toward: building bridges between Israel and Africa rooted in mutual respect, shared opportunity, and genuine partnership.
Since Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland in December 2025, the relationship between the two nations has moved at a remarkable pace; from the appointment of ambassadors on both sides, to today's visit, with an embassy opening in Jerusalem set to follow. For a nation that has waited 35 years for international recognition, President Irro's words on arrival said it all: "𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭."
As Israel and Somaliland move from declarations to practical cooperation, in technology, agriculture, water innovation, and security, our Institute remains committed to fostering exactly these kinds of relationships: ones that translate diplomatic breakthroughs into lasting, people-centered partnerships across the continent.
A new chapter indeed, and we're honored to be part of the conversation.

@somalilandmfa Somaliland was not welcomed in Riyadh, Cairo, and Ankara for 35 years.
Today, it is welcomed in Tel Aviv.
The winners are Israel and Somaliland. And the losers are the makers of the decision to isolate this pioneering country in democracy and peace
Bismillahi Rahmani Rahiim;
I have arrived in Israel as the first President of the Republic of Somaliland to undertake a State Visit, and I am honoured by the warm welcome extended by my friend, President @Isaac_Herzog
For thirty-five years, the people of Somaliland have built a peaceful, democratic, and resilient nation. We asked the world: Do you see us? Israel answered first. Today marks a historic milestone in our journey and the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
To the people of Somaliland: I carry your hopes and aspirations with me. Generations have struggled, sacrificed, and persevered to bring our nation to this moment. We will seize this opportunity with confidence, wisdom, and determination, always guided by the interests of our people and our Republic.
Today, history is being written, and Somaliland stands ready to forge a shared future founded on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
