Āllāḥ ﷻ; The All-Wise; Bestowed Strength And Ḥonour Upon Us Through Iṣlām.

اللَّهُ ﷻ، الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ، مَنَحَنَا الْقُوَّةَ وَالْعِزَّةَ بِالْإِسْلَامِ.

❖ On The Historical Contexts Behind The Famous Exhortation Of ʾĀmīr Āl-Mūʾmīnīn; Kḥalifāḥ ʿUmār b. Āl-Kḥaṭṭāb [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ] [c. 584–644 CE]; One Of The Āl-Kḥūlafāʾ ʿĀr-Rāṣḥīḍūn — Delivered This Advice During His Journey To Āl-Ṣḥām [Greater Ṣyriā]:

❝Verily! We Were The Most Humiliated People On Earth And Āllāḥ ﷻ, Gave Us Ḥonour Through Iṣlām. If We Ever Seek Ḥonour Through Anything Else, Āllāḥ ﷻ, Will Humiliate Us Again.❞

عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رضي الله عنه. إِنَّا كُنَّا أَذَلَّ قَوْمٍ فَأَعَزَّنَا اللَّهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ فَمَهْمَا نَطْلُبُ الْعِزَّةَ بِغَيْرِ مَا أَعَزَّنَا اللَّهُ بِهِ أَذَلَّنَا اللَّهُ.

Ṭarīq Ibn Ṣḥiḥāb Ibn ʿĀbd Ṣḥāms Āl-Bajālī Āl-ʿĀḥmāṣī [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ]; Reported:

ʿUmār b. Āl-Kḥaṭṭāb [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ], went out to Āl-Ṣḥām [Greater Ṣyriā], and ʿĀbū ʿUbaydāḥ ʿĀbd ʿĀllāḥ b. Āl-Jarrāḥ [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ], was with us. They Came to a Ford while ʿUmār b. Āl-Kḥaṭṭāb [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ], was on his Camel. He Dismounted his Camel, took off his Leather Socks, placed them on his Shoulder and took the Reins of his Camel and began to go down the Ford.

ʿĀbū ʿUbaydāḥ ʿĀbd ʿĀllāḥ b. Āl-Jarrāḥ [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ] [c. 583–639 CE]; Ṣaid:

❝“O” Leader Of The Believers! You Are Doing This?! You take off your Leather Socks, put them on your Shoulder, take your Camel’s Reins and go down the Ford?! I wouldn’t want the People of this Land to see you in such a State!❞

ʾĀmīr Āl-Mūʾmīnīn; Kḥalifāḥ ʿUmār b. Āl-Kḥaṭṭāb [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ] [c. 584–644 CE]; Ṣaid:

❝If Only Someone else Had Ṣaid This “O” ʿĀbū ʿUbaydāḥ. You have Made a Lesson for The ʿUmmāḥ Of Messenger Of Āllāḥ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ! We Were The Lowliest Of People But Āllāḥ ﷻ, Gave Us Might And Glory Through Iṣlām. If We Seek Glory Through Other than What Āllāḥ ﷻ, Gave Us Glory Through Iṣlām, He Will Abase Us [Again].❞

In Another Version ʿĀbū ʿUbaydāḥ ʿĀbd ʿĀllāḥ b. Āl-Jarrāḥ [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ] [c. 583–639 CE]; Ṣaid:

“O” Leader Of The Believers! Should The Armed Forces And Elite Of Āl-Ṣḥām Meet You In This Condition?

ʾĀmīr Āl-Mūʾmīnīn; Kḥalifāḥ ʿUmār b. Āl-Kḥaṭṭāb [رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ] [c. 584–644 CE]; Replied:

❝We Are A People Whom Āllāḥ ﷻ, Gave Might And Glory To Through Iṣlām, So We Will Never Seek Glory Through Anything Else.❞

Reported By Āl-ʿĪmām Āl-Ḥākīm Āl-Nisḥāpurī [رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ] [d. 405 Ā.Ḥ] — Āl-Muṣṭādrāk ʿĀlā Āl-Ṣaḥīḥāyn; Volume Number. 1; Page Number. 61, 62.

He Declared It To Be Ṣaḥīḥ — According To The Criteria Of Āl-ʿĪmām Āl-Bukḥārī [رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ] [d. 256 Ā.Ḥ]; And Āl-ʿĪmām Mūṣlīm [رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ] [d. 261 Ā.Ḥ].

Āl-ʿĪmām Ṣḥāms ʿĀd-Dīn ʿĀdḥ-Dḥāḥabī [رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ] [d. 673 Ā.Ḥ] — And See Šḥāykḫ Muḥammād Nāṣir Āl-Dīn Āl-ʿĀlbānī [رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ] [d. 1420 Ā.Ḥ] — Āl-Ṣaḥīḥaḥ; Volume Number. 1; Page Number. 50.

“إنّا لله وإنّا إليه راجعون.”

قال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية ـ رحمه الله ـ :

الله عنده من المنازل العالية في دار كرامته ما لا ينالها إلا أهل البلاء..

فالذي شرعه الله للمؤمنين عند الإصابة بالمصائب وإن عظمت أن يقولوا: (إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون).

They were the Best of this ʿUmmāḥ — The Purest In Ḥeart, The Deepest In Knowledge and The Most Straightforward.
