Also: This overture is for the good of REs and Deacons. They are able to point to written words any differences they have with the standards. That gives freedom. Freedom that comes from knowing one's conscience is clear as to one's beliefs relative to the Church's standards.
I'm a member of the presbytery that sent up Item 5. I also presented and argued for it at Overtures. There was no such desire present or involved in its crafting. And I'm not aware of anyone who's looking to make the PCA a one-office denomination.
The question here is not the level at which one is able to articulate their views. The question is whether officers agree with the standards they vow to uphold. Why should we require TEs to register their differences and presbyteries to record their judgments concerning those differences and NOT do the same with REs and deacons?
If you made poor choices sexually at some point in your life, and repented of those, and are following Christ, and your inner voice tells you that you are damaged goods, and that no sincere Christian should marry you, so you have no choice but to pursue a man or woman who doesn't know Christ, you need to know that is a lie from the pit of hell. It is the work of the devil himself, who seeks to trap you in an endless cycle of sin and shame.
This is sad. I know as a politician these companies are going to spend a billion dollars against me for saying it but 🤷🏽♀️
Pervasive gambling is not good for society. It turns life into a casino, traps people in addiction & debt, surges domestic violence, and fosters manipulation.
A long time coming: Cameron Clausing's and my English translation of Herman Bavinck's 𝑀𝑎𝑔𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑎 𝐷𝑒𝑖 is now available for pre-order. Really glad this one is finally making its way into the world.
