Court blocks sale of Markus Jooste's R95 Million Hermanus mansion

The Western Cape High Court has blocked the sale of Markus Jooste's R95-million mansion in Hermanus after the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) raised objections.

The property, owned by a company linked to Jooste's family trust, was intended to be sold to settle debts amounting to R110 million.

However, the SARB, which is investigating potential exchange control violations, issued a blocking order on the assets, preventing the sale.

The Reserve Bank argued that Jooste used entities like the Silveroak Trust to hold assets under his control. The court sided with the SARB, halting the transaction.

This development is part of broader efforts by the SARB to attach assets linked to Jooste, the former Steinhoff CEO, who resigned in 2017 amid an accounting scandal that led to significant financial losses for investors.
