Thank you Canada for taking action on #BellLetsTalk Day! There is not just one day or one way to take action. Let's keep the momentum going - together we can create real change in mental health.
"Adults who work with and care for children need to pay close attention to their own self-regulation. The better we can remain optimally regulated, the better we can help a student to achieve optimal regulation." ~ Stuart Shanker

Just because a cry is attention-seeking does not make it any less worthy of your attention.
Young children use cries to communicate a wide variety of needs - often tapping into tears when they lack the verbal abilities to sufficiently express their needs/feelings.
That doesn’t make these cries “fake.” Think of them, instead, as messages your child isn’t yet prepared to express otherwise.
I can’t get enough of this little one, who takes the time to get comfortable and position herself properly on the floor before launching into her cry.
It’s a great illustration of how a cry can be simultaneously planful and legitimate.
So take heed.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is September 30. We encourage all students and families to wear orange on Friday, September 29th, to honour the children whose lives were lost and the survivors of Residential Schools.
Every student in Ontario deserves to learn in a safe and inclusive environment. Let's celebrate diversity, promote acceptance, and support LGBTQ2S+ inclusion in our schools! 🌈❤️ #LGBTQ2S+ #InclusiveEducation#OntarioSchools
"The idea behind reframing in a psychological context is that when, for example, you look at a child's behaviour through a self-control lens you may see opposition, but look at it through a #SelfReg lens and what you see if fight-or-flight." ~ Stuart Shanker

Happy first week and day to all educators, students and families. I'd like to say I didn't have tears as my not so little ones walked into Grades 5 and 2... but that would be a lie!

"A stress cycle means you have gone from self-regulating to self-dysregulating: over-reactive to stresses, internal as well as external, in a way that ensures you will stay stressed." ~ Stuart Shanker

Today Terry Fox would have turned 65 years old. He will forever be the young hero who changed the face of ground-breaking cancer research when cancer stole him from us at such a young age. You can join this year’s Terry Fox Run on September 17th in communities across Canada.
