On March 8, 1945, Phyllis Mae Dailey broke barriers by becoming the first Black person to be sworn in as a Navy nurse. Her historic achievement paved the way for greater diversity and inclusion within the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps. Dailey's courage and dedication not only contributed to the war effort during World War II but also inspired future generations of Black nurses to pursue careers in the military.
