A short tale:

Tom begrudgingly accompanied his wife to a Home & Garden show. On entering, he immediately separated in the direction of the lawn equipment and tool displays to at least avoid having to give his opinion on crocheted covers for toilet paper rolls. As he made his way through the aisles, he suddenly bumped into his first teenage love.

Despite the decades, they both immediately recognized each other. Their eyes met and they both tingled with the fondness that only memories of young love could create. After some cursory small talk and exchanging facts of life events, they hugged each other goodbye very warmly and offered their best wishes.

Still with a slight glow from his encounter, Tom dejectedly made his way back down the aisle toward his wife. His imagination ran wild with thoughts of his high school sweetheart, and he began to ponder where he’d be in life if he had married her instead.

Then the realization hit him: He’d be at this goddamned Home & Garden show with her.
