Any Irish person with an ounce of historic memory will view the scenes in Belfast last night - loyalist pogroms, burning families out of their homes - with utter disgust, the only people cheering it on are the worst reactionary elements in the US, Britain and further afield
“This reads like AI-”
No, sir, AI was trained on how I write. I grew up in the trenches of Tumblr, AO3, Wattpad, and fanfictionnet You can’t pry my rule of three from my cold, human hands.
@corrupt_touch Putting you write fanfic in a work related linkedin/bio is a bit iffy tbh. Those are two separate things -unless this persons work is related to that somehow? No idea. I’d never bring that up in a team meeting either but I don’t know the culture of this company. Might be casual.
I think people- fans especially - forget about fleabottom Dunk. They forget he is still very much present underneath dunk in the books. And it’s a pity because the dichotomy is so damn interesting!
Ive said it here before but book dunk is so much more interesting in that dunk of flea bottom is still there. Along with his violence and his prejudices. But ser duncan the tall is different, and always chooses to DO the right thing (´・ω・`)
Just my personal take
I am once again begging folks to understand the difference between ‘I don’t like this’ and ‘Nobody likes this’.
You are not the main character of the world. Readers and authors have different tastes. You are not the arbiter of what authors should and should not put into books.
If squatters take over a derelict building the guards come around with batons because 'private property' but when crimes are committed against wildlife nothing happens because capitalism assigns no value to them
Most MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES actually would disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. Pretending money doesn't affect MENTAL HEALTH is privilege.
The Irish Times naturally doesn't reveal O'Sullivan's affiliation in her anti-neutrality piece today. She's the director of a defence thinktank, Security Ireland. Amongst other things, it advises investors on 'opportunities' to be had in the EU's €800bn arms industry bonanza.
@muheediva01 I had a co-worker who would do this. After being told not to. Repeatedly. By HR. Not only would she log into her personal email, but she'd forget to log out and it would just be left there, open. Because why not.
@jan_murray@hughlaurie@unherd You critiqued, he responded. Your critique was public. So was his reply. The follower imbalance is there but why should that be his problem? Should he have to stay silent while someone is allowed to critique something he was involved in? Why is that fair?
Micheál Martin was part of the cabinet that dealt with the 1999 Ireland/Yugoslavia match by refusing to give visas to the Yugoslav players. The EUFA/FIFA penalties against Ireland were minimal.
Now, spoofer Martin says it's up to the FAI, not government, to decide about israel.

presidente da FIFA:
i took a 45-minute uber ride home from the airport last night after a brutal, three-day business trip.
i was completely emotionally and physically drained, and my social battery was at absolute zero.
when i got into the car, the driver.. an older guy named kabir.. didn't say the usual "how was your flight?" or turn on the radio.
instead, he just handed me a small, laminated piece of paper attached to the back of his headrest.
it was a literal "ride menu."
it said:
1. *the silent ride* (total quiet, no pressure to talk).
2. *the therapist ride* (if you need to vent about your day, i am listening).
3. *the tourist ride* (i will tell you cool facts about the city).
4. *the radio ride* (we just listen to old jazz and coast).
i smiled, pointed to number 1, and whispered, "silent ride, please. thank you."
he gave me a warm nod in the rearview mirror, adjusted the AC, and drove the entire 45 minutes in absolute, beautiful silence.
it was the most peaceful, therapeutic boundary i’ve experienced all year. i felt my entire nervous system finally reset.
when he dropped me off, i gave him a massive tip and told him, "that menu is a genius business idea. you must get amazing reviews."
He looked back at me and said, "i didn't make the menu to get better tips, dear.
my daughter has severe social anxiety, and she told me that the hardest part of her day is navigating small talk with strangers when her brain is tired.
she told me it feels like running a marathon.
i made the card so that anyone who gets into my car can feel completely safe dropping the mask for a little while."
i walked into my apartment and just sat on my suitcase.
we live in a world that is constantly screaming at us to perform, to network, to be "on," and to over-communicate.
but sometimes, the deepest form of love and respect you can show another human being is just creating a small, safe pocket of silence for them to rest in.
pay attention to the people who give you permission to be quiet. they are rare.
