BREAKING: At 6:59 PM tonight, the agenda sent to members of the Decentralization Committee stated that tomorrow’s meeting would be to “research the proposed amendments” which would essentially allow the committee to take a vote, use the PNC majority, and conclude its work on the bill.

But at 9:26 PM, a new agenda was sent. The item was changed to “take a decision on the deadline for the bill.”

Never forget the MPs on the Decentralization Committee who are pushing through the “island colonization bill” , a bill that will dismantle the decentralization system we finally got in 2010 and strip local communities of their power over their own islands.

The proposal to delay the committee hearing on the proposed “colonizing islands” bill until 30 September, giving time for the public petition to progress and for consultations with local councils and the LGA, was rejected by PNC members of the committee.

Instead, they chose to fast-track the bill and push it through the committee within just a few days.
