Hi World News, It really was NOT a tsunami that hit us here in South Africa!

According to the South African Weather Service @SAWeatherServic there was NO #tsunami that hit the South African coastline yesterday on September 16, 2023.
The videos (like one below from another network) circulating on social media showing storm surges and big waves washing away cars in Gordon's Bay and other parts of the Western Cape (which did happen!) are not evidence of a tsunami.
There are, however, reports of a mid-Indian Ocean earthquake midday Sept 16th and unverified rumors that it may be related to the surge.
A storm surge resulting in strong winds and high waves hit several parts of the Western Cape on September 16, 2023, which caused damage to property and posed a danger to navigation at sea. One elderly lady at Leentjiesklip at Wilderness lost her life. ๐ฏ
The South African Weather Service also issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves between Port Edward and Richards Bay on September 17, 2023.
It is important to rely on official sources of information, such as the South African Weather Service, for accurate and reliable information on weather-related events.
Ps: @Springboks you have nothing to worry about. SA is still here for you today. #GoBokke (Reposted)
