Definitely reached the point where im twiddling my thumbs before my comps. At this point ive done about as much as i can given ive got a day left and i dislike the lack of things to do
Not a big deal but thid paper doesnt use any of the key words i would expect other than the name of the species! What are the odds lol.
Oh well no biggie
I spent 2 days reading up on the specualized metabolism of a particular plant and couldn't find a paper of someone identifyong the terpene synthase for a particular terpene it can produce. Found a reference in a relatively unrelated paper where they cite what i was lookin for ๐
Gonna be cutting it close for a practice talk for my lab tomorrow ๐
Ive got maybe a couple of slides left to do before my comps presentation done (v1 anyway) and oof it took longer than I thought.
The end is in site and i cant tell if im relaxing or getting more stressed
@NicoleRoussey Havent read since befofe undergrad and started audiobooks recently. The stormlight archives and mistborn series are two awesome series i got into thanks to audiobooks. Very unique fantasy style worlds with great characters. Stormlight is especially unique but also a big series
Current draft title:
"Schlecht_Draft1_LabEdits_NoScaffolds_HT_commented"
I know all the jokes about how many drafts you make but its still always amazing to see just how ridiculous they get
Pretty sure im going to make it through grad school more put of sheer stubborness rather than raw ability. Thank god ive got so many great peers and mentors around me
Wrapping up my first draft for my proposal now. Oofda. It feels like a weights been lifted off my shoulders but im gonna get edits in a few days and basically redo the whole thing lol
The amount of rabbit holes im gling down while writing is crazy but it also feels like i have come up with a lot more ideas because of it. Like half thebtime im tempted to add an aim lol
Ive typed the word promiscuous like a hundred times writing these last couple weeks and i always need a spell checker to fix it. Why is this word so hard for me!
@summer_blanco Half of academia will tell you to just have side projects and only tell your PI when things work lol. That was the philosophy of many great postdocs i have met
Looking at molecular dynamics work at a seminar is so much more interesting than when you read a paper and get 4 still frames at different time points. For printed paper that makes sense but on the online version we should have gifs or something so you can properly visualize it
I frequently am bad at checking what authors write papers but ive been trying to pay more attention to it the past month and its kinda fun actually! I often get halfway through a paper and then wonder who writes it and im often blown away by how often its someone i know
Been "writing" all day.. most of my time writing has been me reading papers on some topics i dont have a strong knowledge in. Its a part of the process but dang id love to get more than a paragraph done in the span of a few hours but here i am reading about jasmonate and WRKY TFs
