“But assuming that we all believe in democracy, we still have to face the question of what we are to do when this value conflicts with other values.”

This is cowardice, with democracy as its casualty. @realdonaldtrump will see this as an invitation to further intimidate owner @jeffbezos (and others). Disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage.
In the past the Atlantic endorsed Abraham Lincoln in a divided time. That was the right thing to do. It once again did the right thing with endorsing Harris.
Here’s the greatest novel I’ve ever read, and I just discovered it a few years ago. I think we should reflect on the whole concept of a “classic” novel.

I was with the author on this until near the end. I agree that high school students should be assigned more books to read. I disagree that they must always be “classic” texts.

This is not just a misinformation crisis. We are living through a full-scale assault on anyone who lives in reality: weathermen, scientists, first responders, doctors.

@NewsHour On the other hand. We do have another Gilded Age on our hands and Dimon’s policy proposals don’t sound bad. He is wrong, however, in saying our divide is economic. It is cultural.
@NewsHour In the 1930s, Edward Filene started the Institute of Propaganda Analysis as a way to thwart the threat of demagogic propaganda from the likes of Charles Coughlin. It produced a bunch of curriculum for schools. That is a better example of a wealthy figure seeking to heal the U.S.
@GovTimWalz is the strongest advocate for public education I have seen among public officials. He has been an outstanding governor here in MN and is a strong pick for VP. The Harris-Walz ticket is something to get excited about.
