Sensory Sunday returns to Dynamic Earth on June 7!
If large crowds, bright lights, or loud noises make a regular visit challenging, this dedicated day offers a calmer, more relaxed environment to explore at your own pace.
What to expect during your visit:
✅ Underground Tours: enjoy a modified, slower-paced tour with softened lighting. The loud explosion and other heavy sound effects are turned way down. For any sounds that can't be adjusted, our Bluecoat guides will give you a clear heads-up beforehand.
✅ The Epiroc Theatre: pre-shows and loud trailers are turned off. We will be screening Planting Hope with the volume lowered and the house lights dimmed rather than completely dark.
✅ Nickel City Stories: theatre doors will remain open for extra ambient light, and the overall audio volume is reduced.
✅ Lapidary Lab: the lab remains open for hands-on activities, but because equipment can be noisy, the doors will stay closed and warning signs will be posted so you can decide before entering.
✅ Quiet Zones: dedicated sensory break spaces are available throughout the building whenever you or your family need a moment to recharge.

📍 Dynamic Earth
We can't wait to welcome you for a quieter day of discovering earth science and mining history. See you underground!
June is a time for reflection, learning, and celebration. 🧡🏳️🌈
We’ve updated our logo for the month in recognition of National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month—two powerful reminders of identity, resilience, and community.
The design features two feathers that honour both Indigenous cultures and Pride, symbolizing unity, science, and the path forward. It was created in collaboration with Patrick Hunter, a 2Spirit, Ojibwe artist and graphic designer from Red Lake.
We invite you to join us in celebrating the deep histories and ongoing contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities—and to walk alongside 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in support, respect, and joy.
Let’s continue learning, growing, and building a more inclusive future together.
Celebrate with us on June 21 (10 am to 4 pm):
📍Science North
✅ Indigenous vendors
✅ Knowledge-sharing workshops running throughout the day
✅ Special menu at Elements
✅ FREE planetarium show - Under the Same Stars: Minwaadiziwin at 1:30pm
📍Dynamic Earth
✅ Plating Hope screening in Anishinaabemowin
Reminder: FREE general admission is always available to self-identified Indigenous Peoples.
Space needs space! 🌌
Ryan Gosling is right. And honestly, he’s never looked better than on a massive IMAX screen. Hear from Ryan himself about why Project Hail Mary was built for the biggest screen possible.
🚨 CRITICAL MISSION UPDATE:
As we're posting this, we are down to fewer than 30 tickets left for each screening this Saturday, May 30 (5 pm & 8 pm). If you want to experience those expanded IMAX scenes and our limited-edition snack combos, you need to act right now.

Maple is officially logging some outdoor hours! 🌲
When she's constantly sniffing the air like this, she’s putting her strongest sense to work. Porcupines have poor eyesight, so they rely on an incredible sense of smell to explore and navigate their surroundings.
Is her habitat empty inside during your visit? She is probably on a walk with her Bluecoat! Spot them on the grounds to join them in the sunshine. ☀️
Are you spending as much time in nature this week as our favourite resident porcupine?
Something massive is arriving at Science North this summer! ☀️
Opening June 19, Earth Works: Where Art Meets Action is an immersive new exhibition that brings together art, creativity, and environmental action in unforgettable ways. Produced by Science North, this experience is part art gallery, part interactive adventure, designed to challenge how we think about waste and our impact on the planet. 🌎🎨
Prepare to be inspired by the incredible work of Canadian artist and activist Benjamin Von Wong, whose breathtaking large-scale installations transform discarded materials into powerful works of art that spark conversation and inspire change.
We’ll be rolling out more stories behind each artwork over the coming months, so stay tuned as the exhibit continues to take shape! 👀
Entry is included with your admission.

The biggest snowflake in Sudbury is looking a little different now, right? That’s because we are replacing windows at Science North! 😉❄️
Due to our unique architecture, many of the 500+ windows across our facility are custom-shaped. This project replaces aging glazing with modern high-efficiency glass designed to improve thermal performance and help better regulate indoor temperatures throughout the year.
In addition to renewing a key part of our facility, the upgrade supports Science North’s broader sustainability and energy efficiency goals as part of our long-term Net Zero Carbon Plan.

Do you have what it takes to land on the Moon? 🌖
Join us this May long weekend for our newest workshop: Egg-stronaut Lander (Atterrisseur astron-oeuf)! 🥚🧑🚀
Inspired by the Artemis missions, this challenge tests your engineering skills. You'll design and build a lunar lander using materials like balloons, straws, and craft sticks. Once your craft is ready, we’ll drop it from 3 meters high to see if your Egg-stronaut survives the impact.
When? Starting this Saturday. Where? Science North. The goal: build a lander that keeps your egg intact.
If your design can’t handle the drop, you can head back to the drawing board. Come find out if you have the "write" stuff for space exploration!
TINY world, BIG screen!
There is a world hidden in the garden, and on May 20, it’s taking over our IMAX screen.
For ONE NIGHT only, watch the macro detail of Studio Ghibli on a massive scale. The lush greenery, the hand-painted interiors of Arrietty’s home… every frame was remastered in 4K.
Anime fan or art lover, this is an EXCLUSIVE opportunity to see this Ghibli masterpiece in its most immersive format ever.
Wednesday, May 20, ONLY here at Science North’s IMAX!

Do you remember the first time you went underground?
Sudbury’s mining roots run deep, and we’re making sure that legacy continues to inspire. For Mining Week, we’re looking ahead to our new expansion and the impact it will have on our community.
There’s a specific spark that happens when a visitor walks through a drift and realizes the scale of the work being done beneath our feet. Our new experiences, opening at Dynamic Earth for the summer, are built to capture that wonder, turning a day at the science centre into inspiration for a lifelong career.
We’re proud to play a part in shaping the journey of Northern Ontario's future workforce. Share your favourite underground memory with us below! 👇
It is a great week to be in the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery. We have a wide variety of species out and active, including those shown in the carousel here. The gallery is genuinely full of wings right now, so it’s the perfect time to drop by and see which species you can identify. 🦋✨

Happy Mother’s Day from the team at Science North and Dynamic Earth! 💙
We are honoured to be part of your family’s memories and are grateful you share your milestones and discoveries with us. We look forward to many more years of wonder and curiosity together.
On May 10th, 23 years ago, Dynamic Earth first opened its doors to share the story of Sudbury’s geology and earth sciences. This year, our birthday feels like the start of something even bigger. 💥
We’re starting a countdown to our massive expansion opening for the Summer. The heart of this new chapter is a multipurpose space designed to resemble the shape of the Sudbury Basin itself. Inside, you’ll experience the Big Impact Show, projected directly onto the rock wall (swipe to see a sneak peek!).
We’re so excited to present you with an immersive look at the literal big impact that created this landscape and the legacy it left behind. We’re celebrating 23 years by going deeper than ever before.
Stay tuned for more information on our grand opening date and when you can experience our brand-new show. See you soon!
If you’re out on the trails this spring, you’ll probably spot some American Toads. They’re great for the ecosystem, but keep a close eye on your pets!
The toads have poisonous glands behind their eyes as a way of passively defending themselves against predators. It tastes terrible to predators and can make pets very sick.
Quick Tip: If you’re moving one off the path, just remember to wash your hands before touching your face! Have you spotted one already? 🐸
We can help you show the mothers in your life some appreciation with a gift that stands out. We have several new arrivals in stock, including apparel and Science North swag modelled here by Natasha, as well as original art by Indigenous artists. Swipe to see some highlights.
