Science in action today as 5th, 6th and 9th grade students experienced the deer food plot experiment finally breaking ground. HUGE thank you to Mr. Baronich for demonstrating with his skid-steer and sharing his expertise! #barkercsd@NorrisBarkerCSD
Miracle of life - #vernalpool style! Some students in Living Environment got to see a water flea giving live birth today in lab class. So much fun exploring the ecology of these unique ecosystems! A copepod also tried to photobomb the show! #barkercsd
Living Environment students created models of the oldest known, self-sustaining ecosystem in a bottle, showing how matter is cycled during photosynthesis and cellular respiration and then created a video explaining it. Loved what they came up with! #barkercsd
Pepé Le Pew visited the bait pile recently, bringing our total wildlife species served to 5! Red Fox, Coyote, Possum, Skunk, and Red-tailed Hawk (...and domestic dog!) have all been documented feasting on the bounty. #barkercsd
Some recent videos from the bait pile trail camera. Lots of critters getting snacks, from Red-tailed Hawks to opossums to coyotes! #barkdercsd@BrowningCams
Fun Conservation Club hike yesterday! We checked the trail camera and looked for wintering owls in the conifers. Stay tuned for trail camera videos! #barkercsd
Before and after: using the air bubbles along the needle as a reference, you can see how the cells rehydrated once we replaced the salt water with distilled water #barkercsd
Onion cells + salt water = #plasmolysis! Fun lab this week watching osmosis in action and making a time-lapse with Living Environment students. #barkercsd
Fun Conservation Club hike to Krull Park yesterday morning! Lots of birds to be seen and #ebird (https://t.co/2g47oEt6G3) and a great mix of habitats to explore. #barkercsd#RedCrossbill#EasternBluebird
Students were the teachers today as they presented their cell organelle projects with their remote partners via Zoom. We all enjoyed some great cell artwork as well, while learning about the functions and interactions of cell organelles! #barkercsd
Busy bees! Students worked in groups to design and conduct an investigation to look at factors affecting plant growth. Best part was watching the in-person kids showing their remote partners the plants and explaining what they were seeing. #barkercsd
Students worked together to collect soil samples from our food plot project yesterday. The samples will be sent out to a lab to test pH and nutrient levels to determine what fertilizers and other amendments we may need prior to planting. #barkercsd
