Dr. Robert H. Goddard launched the world's first-fueled rocket on March 16, 1926.

Goddard was mocked in the press for claiming rockets could work in the vacuum space. Early solid and liquid fuel tests frequently exploded, or only flew a few feet. after years of secret, underfunded work on 16 March 1926 he launched the firsts liquid-fueled rocket ("Nell") about 41 feet high for 2.5 seconds. His patents and methods laid foundations for modern rocketry.
