My heartfelt condolences today to the family and friends of the heroic Vicky Phelan. One of the great tragedies of Vicky's death is that we still have not introduced primary and secondary testing for Cervical cancer in Ireland as the principal means for detecting this disease.
I commend the opposition parties in their united support of Irish medical scientists seeking justice & parity in the Irish workforce. Your words were strong but your actions will speak much much louder and l believe your time will soon come to put those words into action
I find it hard to fathom how our elected governing representatives can recognise a blatant 20 year pay inequality in the Irish workplace and allow it to continue!!!!
In summary, an opposition motion called on government to ensure DPER & the HSE agree to (among other things) the long-standing pay parity award recommended to medical scientists over 20 years ago & immediately implement the 8% pay increase sought
Government amended the motion completely and though "recognising the 2002 benchmarking process broke the link between the 2 grades (medical scientists & biochemists) & consequently eliminated parity" they called on further talks rather than immediately move to address the matter
Teidí our youngest picketer @ 7 weeks, out to support Mum and all the other Medical scientists seeking equality of pay and career prospects in the Irish medical service
@butwhyso2@abisal1 Yes, a significant reduction in on-call earnings since 2011. All the more reason Government & DPER should use these savings to address the pay inequality once and for all and give Irish Medical scientists back what they constitutionally deserve, equal pay for equal work!
Where will the funds come from to address the pay inequality? Government could dip into the €10,000,000 year on year savings accrued since 2011 when Medical scientists changed their out of hours service from fee per item to an hourly rate, that is €100,000, 000 and counting...
Nothing less than full pay parity (point-to-point assimilation ) for Medical scientist grades where any inequality exists with Biochemists is what should be sought with government through our industrial action!
Medical scientists in Cork would like to thank the people of Cork for all their local support, encouragement and kind words in our industrial action today
