House Select Committee on the CCP released its scam compounds investigation yesterday. The bipartisan finding is that China isn't directing the system, but its deliberate failure to act has enabled it. For the first time, the report documents a Chinese state-owned enterprise contracting with Prince Group in 2018 to build infrastructure in Cambodia later used as scam compounds. Jacob Sims walked the committee through it. 1/5
Mass Breakout at Baolong 3 in Poipet
Video circulating on Chinese Telegram tonight shows workers rushing the gate, shouting, and escaping from Baolong 3, a scam compound on the outskirts of Poipet.
The same Telegram channels describe workers at one of the companies inside being shocked until they screamed (电人嗷嗷叫), and say 40 to 50 organized tonight's rush after they couldn't take it anymore. Security reportedly met them at the gate with steel pipes. Unverified online report, but the video makes clear people got out.
The use of "Scambodia" in the headline of this WSJ piece is getting quite a lot of pushback on Cambodian social media -- but frankly, Cambodia's government only has itself to blame. The piece provides a pretty good overview of a fatally serious problem.
FM @SihasakPh delivered a statement at the HLS of the 61st UNHRC Session in Geneva, underscoring importance of multilateral cooperation and highlighting transnational online scams as a global human rights crisis directly impacting Thailand. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to intl. cooperation to dismantle such criminal networks. Responding to Cambodia’s remarks on the border situation, FM stressed that allegations are unfounded and Thailand remains committed to dialogue and the ceasefire while firmly safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Thailand Clarifies Border Statue Removal to India, Cites Security Over Religious Intent
The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Joint Press Center on the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation have issued an urgent clarification to the Indian government following the removal of a structure resembling a Hindu deity in a disputed border zone. Thai authorities maintain that the action was a matter of "area administration and security management" and was not intended to disrespect religious sentiments.
The clarification on December 25 follows concerns voiced by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, which described the demolition as "disrespectful" and hurtful to believers worldwide. The official Thai statement outlines the following key points:
- Non-Religious Status: The structure in question was not an officially registered religious site or temple, but rather a decorative piece installed in a sensitive border area.
- Sovereignty and Security: The removal was carried out after Thai forces regained control of the area (Chong An Ma) to prevent the use of symbols that could heighten territorial tensions or be exploited for political purposes.
- Diplomatic Regret: Thailand expressed "sincere regret" for any misunderstanding or discomfort caused by the circulation of images showing the removal, reiterating its deep respect for Hinduism and all shared civilizational heritage in the region.
"The operation was carried out solely as part of area administration and security management. It has nothing to do with religion," the Joint Press Center stated, adding that Thailand remains committed to peaceful diplomacy and preserving the atmosphere of friendship between nations. #thailand #india #ThailandCambodia
Thailand and Cambodia are fighting a land dispute. Cambodia secretly erected a Hanuman statue on the disputed land. The Thai, during the dispute, used a bulldozer to raze the statue. Both are wrong! Please don't do this! Millions revere and worship Hanuman across the globe. It is deeply disrespectful actions by both countries! Our Gods are not shields behind which you fire at each other!
