I'm not running for office. But if I were, these are some of the lessons I'd take away from what happened in NY yesterday.
1. Authenticity is measurable. Voters can smell a focus group from a mile away.
2. Endorsements from the current Democratic leadership now read like warnings. The establishment wing of the party is no longer a sword. It's a question mark.
3. Conviction beats caution. The candidates who said hard things about rent, about who pays for what, about Gaza, they won. The triangulators lost.
4. Cost of living is everything. Everything else is wallpaper.
5. The middle is not a strategy. It's an empty room. Voters reached past the establishment to grab someone who actually believes something.
6. Don't fear the base. Court it. The Democrats who ran from their own voters lost. The ones who ran toward them won.
7. If you want to lead a party you have to be willing to fight inside it. Mamdani didn't ask permission. He took the field.
The lesson under the lessons: the country is tired of being managed. People want to be led.
@DemonFly666@ArmandoNDK Foot on the scale? It was down for Mills. And she couldn't be bothered to campaign enough. Costello barely managed attention until all this popped, but a candidate who can't create attention for themselves isn't much of one.
@DemonFly666@ArmandoNDK Easily had with who? Mills is not liked. If she had gotten the nomination, you were not looking at a win. The fact that Planner was heavily favored against her by Maine voters with his history says it all.
@SeanTrende@daveweigel@kausmickey It influences my choices, but it isnt a deal breaker. Unless they commit a crime or use their power in office to do something bordering criminal, I care what they can accomplish.
1/ A repatriated Korean worker from the Hyundai-LG battery factory secretly wrote a detention diary about their 7-day experience in ICE custody in Georgia. The worker says ICE officers mocked them with words like as "North Korea" and "Rocket Man" despite holding a business visa.
Today we learned the sad news another kid died from measles in Texas.
We also learned what RFK Jr. will and will not say
And we got a clearer glimpse of the playbook being used to discredit the proven measures to tackle measles outbreaks
Let me tell you why I'm worried 🧵
A well-respected MMA coach who always posts training tips and is based out of Australia says he arrived in the U.S. for an already-scheduled seminar, but was detained at the border, thrown in a federal prison and ultimately deported.
The details of his story are harrowing:
MAGA is making the claim that if you watch the entire 50 minute video, Zelensky is the antagonist.
This isn't true. At all. I was with Zelensky before this meeting and it's important to know his mindset heading in.
1/ A short 🧵on how the entire ambush went down.
$400M of Teslas for State Department? Trump admin said it started in Biden White House. I obtained a doc showing the amount Biden's State Department planned to spend on EVs: $483,000.
Former WH official on $400M: "I don’t think this is a clerical error"

This one is for Hip Hop.
I felt heavily inspired by the lineage of Hip Hop and how it contributes to who I am today. This is my first self choreographed performance and one of the most important things I wanted to highlight was my connection to black women through Hip Hop. With the help of hair artist Malcom Marquez, we were able to make this symbolic art performance come to life in just a short week.
A special s/o to some of my inspirations; the incredible @solangeknowles @carlota_guerrero and @mfdoom (rip)
A special s/o to my stylist @sam__woolf for nailing this look and translating my take on hip hop through clothing !
This is my take on the future of Hip Hop. This is blackness. This is luxury. This is history.
Thank you to the @colbertlateshow team for having us on your show! And thank you to my true fans for always showing up to every performance and sharing my music 🐊 SWAMP4L
@iamharaldur Those who speak in absolutes are often incorrect. I can think of many examples of worse fus to democracy on the scale of intent, impact, and ethics.
Hey, fun story!
I live on a small island in Maine. Post-election, a writer-friend & I decided to start a little islander group to share emotional support, info & resources. She posted about the 1st meeting on NextDoor.
Easy peasy.
There was nothing in the ad beyond "hey, things might get tough, let's get through this together."
IMMEDIATELY, MAGAs sailed in to scream, mock, & threaten us. For a support group.
Hahaha @RyanAFournier Why did you delete your post after you got caught lying? Why don't you MAGAs ever tell the truth? I will save it here for you just incase you need it again.
@DanAncona @LSTrip44 @tbonier@TargetSmart@Nate_Cohn He may be thinking of the ratio of Republican to Democratic registration, which, if I recall correctly, shifted in some key states around Biden year 2. Lots of ways to slice the numbers.
