How strong is AAP’s support among its 2022 voters?
SCORE’s latest findings offer an interesting look at voting preferences across women and men in Punjab.
At DesignBoxed we decided to take a plunge and start a survey organisation that does things differently. If you see our website you’ll see what’s different — nobody puts out such granular seat by seat data.
I’ll be honest: the findings of our Punjab survey surprised even me. Being from Punjab myself I’m deeply concerned about drugs and crime in the state. But the survey findings were saying something else: women and the poor are happy with freebies and cash transfers. We checked this in multiple ways: a phone survey, a ground qualitative survey, a ground quantitative survey, and then a survey of local community groups across the state.
We had a choice to make. Should we go with our data or our instinct?
According to our data, if only men were voting, the AAP would still be leading but would be under the majority mark. There is a huge gender gap among men and women voting for AAP. Less than 3 out of ten respondents say they intend to vote AAP, but around 5 of 10 women do the same.
It is the women who are giving the AAP comfort.
This is a movie we have seen before. Working with Late Shri Ajit Pawar in Maharashtra in 2024 Vidhan Sabha elections, we helped the NCP go from extreme anti-incumbency to a bumper victory by campaigning over the women’s cash transfer scheme. The scheme has been found to beat anti-incumbency in state after state, including Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
It should also be remembered that the AAP not only has a women’s cash transfer scheme but is also lucky to have a very divided opposition. Who would have thought that one day UP will look bi-polar and Punjab will look multi-polar!
Our website https://t.co/Ek71YcsePI helps you explore our Punjab opinion poll of seat by seat, region by region. Of course, the election is 4-5 months away and a lot can change. We will track the change month on month, releasing the next monthly tracker around the 15th of November.
To our critics: abuse us, but please do a deep dive into our data.
