Monday's stunning sunrise from Meall nan Tarmachan. Initially, there wasn't much cloud, then an inversion suddenly developed with cloud streaming in from Loch Tay which almost reached the summit at 1043m. Light conditions were incredible as the low sun appeared on the horizon.🌄
Following the unsettled spell there was a World Cup weather window on Sunday into Monday. I grabbed chance for a wild camp and headed to Meall nan Tarmachan. Camping just below summit at around 1020m. Blue skies arrived after 6pm and I took a late evening wander to Meall Garbh.
Cold air. Clear skies. Short winter days.

The Arrochar Alps still only have a light dusting of snow late afternoon on 3rd January as the south west Highlands remains sheltered from any snow showers on the current northerly winds. Viewed from Gourock south of the River Clyde.
There was an early Christmas present today as clouds finally cleared for 1st proper sunrise here in a while after what seems like weeks of cloud and rain. It may not be a white one this year, but I'd happily have a sunny Christmas instead. Merry Christmas everyone. 🌲☀️🎅❄️
New mountain film out 22.12 at 7pm on Scottish Climber's Outdoor Adventures channel❄️. A snowy circular hike from Altnafeadh to Beinn a’ Chrulaiste, returning via Kingshouse glen. Big Glencoe views of Buachaille Etive Mor, & more 🏔️

After 2 weeks of cloud & rain the golden globe finally put in a festive appearance. Headed up local Munro, Ben Lomond. Winter gear was essential with crampons for icy paths. Saw a few folk in shorts & trainers. Don't know how they manage to avoid slips & getting frozen feet!
If Carlsberg did commutes to work they'd include a temperature inversion! 😂. This morning Ben Lomond and a distant Stob Binnien (on the right) caught the first rays of sunshine above the fog bank sitting over the River Clyde.

A fine frosty start to the working week. ❄️☀️🌅 Definitely a day to be up a mountain if didn't have to work! Arrochar Alps were looking great in their winter coats from Greenock south of the River Clyde.
The snow has not yet reached the most southerly Munros. Ben Lomond is still snow free and there is maybe a dusting on Stob Binnien. Snow was visible on a distant Ben Cruachan from above Greenock this morning on the morning commute. ❄️

It was a proper winter day on Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas in today's weather window. With snow and lots of ice above 750m I wore my crampons for the 1st time ever in October for part of the descent. Also saw my first sun halo at the summit.

An early start on Friday leaving Inverlochlarig at 7am with great views of Loch Voil & Loch Doine as the sun rose. Was chilly in the north wind with a few light snow showers as revisited Beinn Tulaichean and Cruach Ardrain for the 1st time in 33 years. Where does the time go?
📍Col de la Cayolle, France (2326m) was final alpine pass of the holiday and from there we descended to Nice, 130km to the south. The pass sits on the border of the Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes de Hautes Provence. A narrow exposed road leads to the col making a challenging drive!
