We need "leadership on these transit and transportation funding issues. Not bold leadership…nothing I am advocating for is bold. Not visionary leadership…nothing I have written about is visionary," …but "leadership that has a realistic & accurate understanding of the moment"
Dear Team Sandro,
We're absolutely blown away by the generosity of our community, friends, family—and total strangers—435 GoFundMe donors so far who are making the challenges we’re facing with Sandro’s treatment that much less daunting. Here's an update: https://t.co/SdmXldVwO8
I have difficult news to share & am asking for your help. Our 21-yo @OhioWesleyan rising senior & wrestler, Sandro, was diagnosed with rare spinal cord cancer & left unable to walk. We face daunting challenges to get thru this crisis. Pls donate & share 🙏

Behind-the-meter solar is working its magic on a sunny, not too hot New England day. A puzzle: Estimated contribution of BTMPV @ 13:20 was ~4850 MW, whereas 2023 CELT forecast of BTMPV installed year-end 2023 was 3657 MW (AC *nameplate*). Losses can't account for a gap that big.
ICYMI, check out the impressive new @transitmatters Data Dashboard. The design makes it easy to see visual metrics for MBTA speed, service, and ridership, and quickly filter it by line or time period. Providing this information so accessibly fills a critical public service gap.
📈 TransitMatters Labs is excited to announce the launch of the all-new Data Dashboard!

@StrongTowns …for which no one takes responsibility, but which millions pay for with their health or their lives. And with so much infrastructure built 50 years ago to serve sprawl now needing replacement, much of the bill is only now coming due.
@StrongTowns So true. Sprawl typically isn't financially sustainable. The cost per acre to maintain (& eventually replace) infrastructure & provide services is often greater than the meager tax revenues collected per acre from low-density development. Then there are the environmental costs…
@rmchase@modacitylife That's what I love about Zurich—a crystal-clear river/lake right in the center, with people swimming in it & relaxing or dining on the banks.
In the US, the Clean Water Act was passed when? Yet our urban waterways are still unswimmable due to combined sewer overflows and runoff.
@berkie1@jfh In 2019, a broader study of crash data from 12 large US cities over 13 years found that neighborhoods with a greater prevalence of protected and separated bike facilities were "strongly associated with better road safety outcomes for all road users."
@berkie1@jfh In NYC, street redesigns that reduced space for vehicles to create protected bikelanes on 8th & 9th Ave led to 35%-58% reduction in injuries among all road users, including people driving & walking. https://t.co/zVukUvGJDk
