Went & spoke to an elderly man today at his home who was 73 yrs old. He said some pretty profound things that really got me thinking. He said his wife had died & lived alone. His adult kids he said he's lucky to see every other month. It's mostly phone calls except on holidays because they have their own families now. He said he retired at 67 yrs old & his wife planned to as well but she passed away on her 65th birthday. So, he said he's now alone for the most part & has developed several medical issues. He said his life consists of taking medicine & sitting on his porch & going for short drives & waiting on the next phone call from family for human interaction. He said his biggest regret was not retiring earlier to have time with his wife while they were both still healthy & could create memories together. He said he held out for money & now realizes money doesn't buy time which is invaluable.
He never said it, but what I got from all this was his way of telling me to retire as soon as I can to enjoy life while I still have my health. Holding out for more money later won't matter if you pass or aren't healthy enough to enjoy it. I plan to stop by periodically and check in on him. I love hearing wisdom from my elders๐
People immersed in data lose perspective. Recently when I posted on steady price increases at Costco, data obsessives (who never question how reliable it is) sent me CPI charts.
Consider Houellebecqโs predictions as a novelist. He foresaw the incel in 1994. He foresaw grand Islamic terrorism in 2000. He foresaw the expansion of euthanasia of old people in 2008. He foresaw the yellow vests in 2019.
He didnโt have charts he jerked off to. He was observing reality around him, and talking to people. This is denigrated as โlived experienceโ - and that is apparently less valuable than charts and graphs from poindexters. But he got it right, and the GDP numbers did not.
Number and chart jerkoffs need to exercise a little humility, and be aware of their limitations.

โค๏ธ WOW! President Trump just PERSONALLY walked off stage to the grieving parents of 12-year-old Jacob Freytes, a little boy in New York who was killed by the stray bullet of a repeat offender in a gun battle
