The district is just five blocks. The Historic Preservation Board has denied zero projects in five years and voted unanimously that the current ordinance is "functioning efficiently." (3/4)
Since money doesn’t really change one way or the other it all comes down to quality and aesthetics.
What window looks better and works better with your old house?
In my book that is always a restored historic window because vinyl is never anyone’s first choice for beauty!
You will never save money replacing OR restoring your old windows.
There is nothing more fallacious in the remodeling industry than the claim that window replacement saves you money.
But restoration isn’t any better.
Let me explain…
Reason 1
Historic windows can last hundreds of years unlike the 15-20 year lifespan of their replacement cousins.
How long will a restoration last? About 40 years before needing another restoration!
