Yesterday, First World War soldier Pte Albert Henry Detmold was laid to rest with military honours in France. Joined by family and Canadian and French representatives, he was buried by The North Saskatchewan Regiment.
Here's the "In Canada" song that brother Dave, son Evan and I made a few years ago, along with a cast of dozens.
The girl who climbs up on the dock at 3:53 just got married here at the cottage - can't get more Canadian than that!
Launching on April 1st meant I got back in time to celebrate my 23rd wedding anniversary with Catherine today! Grateful to be able to share this zero g photo of my wedding ring in person over dinner tonight… as well as some cuddle time on Earth.
Having grown up in a family of Air Canada pilots (father, brothers, nephew, niece training now), the horrific crash at LaGuardia airport strikes very close to home. My deepest, heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the pilots, and to all those injured. May time and loving support help to heal, and to honour those whom we lost.
May we also learn from this tragedy, to make air travel safer for all.
After years of work, it's surreal and exciting to see 10 new super-capable Canadian laser communications satellites safely in orbit. Toronto's @KeplerComms built and operates them, providing high-speed data to all customers.
The satellites talk to each other (and with Earth) using light, providing much-needed capacity for Canada and internationally.
(I advise the company and was at the cold, pre-dawn launch yesterday - I think my lucky socks helped)

The members of our Canadian Armed Forces stand on guard to defend our nation’s sovereignty. As many spend the holiday season away from home, we extend our deepest gratitude for their continued courage, service, and sacrifice.

Congratulations to our son David on his senior day at Colgate. A tremendous accomplishment, overcoming significant health challenges as a freshman. We are so proud.
Tomorrow is 11 Nov - Remembrance Day. I wear a poppy to honour all soldiers, but especially my great-grandfather Austin John Hadfield, and his younger brother Vic who was killed in the hell of Passchendaele, in Flanders Fields, where poppies grow.

On this day in 1915, John McCrae wrote his famous poem “In Flanders Fields”. It was written by McCrae after he presided over the funeral of a friend and fellow soldier during the First World War. The poem was officially published in Punch Magazine on December 8th, 1915.
So many years later, his poem continues to poignantly express the tragedy and losses of war, and the importance of carrying on their memories.
