In October 1918, during WWI, 2dLt Ralph Talbot and GySgt Robert G. Robinson participated in numerous air raids into enemy territory. For their heroism, Talbot and Robinson were awarded the Medal of Honor.

When the Navy returned on 24 Aug the Marines on Guadalcanal and the adjacent islands had been left with 37 days of rations, but only 4 days’ worth of ammunition under intense combat conditions for more than 2 weeks. Resupply was essential for the campaign’s continuation.
