Shed Open Doors 2026 is almost here!
Taking place during Men's Health Week (15โ21 Jun), Shed Open Doors is an opportunity for Scottish Sheds to collectively welcome visitors, showcase activities & the impact on men's health & wellbeing.

New SMSA Dev Officer Brian said: "It is invaluable accompanying Ross on Shed visits as it gave insight into common issues raised, demonstrated strong working relationships between Development Officers and Sheds, and highlighted how shared solutions can benefit the wider network."
New SMSA Dev Officer Brian McWilliam has been accompanying Ross Murray on Shed visitsโ. At the Cromarty Firth & Dingwall Sheds, we discussed leases, insurance, 'Silent No More' campaign, mink traps, solar panels, membership, mentoring new members, Shed-Wise & governance๐
SMSA visited Glenurquhart MS & discussed insurance, premises, health, funding, their new dust extraction system & Shed-Wise sessions.
The Shed's new kindling machine is creating 20 bags per hour & they're busy making benches & planters for the local mobile barber! ๐
The Aberdeenshire MS Network took place at Fraserburgh MS with the theme of utilities & energy saving. 11 Sheds attended along with the SMSA and presenters Rachel Yule, CARES Local Energy Scotland and Vicky Prendergast, Co-op Community Engagement ๐
2/2 Talk focused on governance, an existing community organisation supporting a shed group, & the development of taster sessions to encourage local involvement. Really encouraging progress, with two attendees already stepping forward to take on the roles of Chair and Secretary ๐
1/2 Great visit to the developing Oban Community Shed group at Oban Youth Cafe alongside committed partners. Positive discussions with reps from @argyllandbute, @GRAB (Group for Recycling Argyll & Bute), the local Development Trust, & LORI (Lorn and Oban Reuse Initiative) ๐
2/2 Thereโs a strong community spirit across Bishopbriggs & surrounding areas. Projects like this show what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose. Looking forward to seeing the Bishopbriggs MS continue to grow & become a major asset for the local community ๐
1/2 Great visit to Bishopbriggs MS & discuss Shed development, support, H&S & everything that helps a Shed grow into a strong community space. Itโs encouraging to see a new Shed taking shape in this part of Glasgow creating the 3 Cโs - connection, camaraderie, & community๐
2/2 The Shed continues to make a valuable contribution to the local community. Members have recently undertaken painting and maintenance work for the Harbour Authority, while also refurbishing and building benches for both the RNLI and wider community use ๐
1/2 SMSA visited Mallaig Menโs Shed where 7 Shedders were in attendance. The morning was filled with laughter, banter & reminiscing with the fishermen ๐
Discussions included funding , premises, SMSA membership, their open day & donation v price on craftwork.
SMSA visited the Kilchoan Shed - a developing Shed with 8 members & open day scheduled for 6 Jun. They secured premises from the @ThinkUHI & funding from the Lottery, Mowi seafoods & Peregrine Trust.

SMSA DO Brian McWilliam paid a visit to Fraserburgh Shed to introduce himself & finalise details for the Aberdeenshire regional Shed Network meeting on 26 May.
The Shed has model-making & art groups & woodworking area which is in final stages of being kitted out ๐
SMSA visited Culter MS to see their woodworking & metalworking areas, polytunnel & social area used for laser printing, music & photography.
Their 'Woodshedders' band is already taking Xmas bookings!
The Shed will host the Aberdeen City Shed Network meeting on 2nd Jun ๐
SMSA met with some men from Acharacle. They meet weekly in the Acharacle Comm Centre. They are negotiating about an area of land & are exploring funding options. We discussed funding, SCIO, SMSA resources, leases, constitutions, utilities, project ideas & promoting the Shed๐
SMSAโs new Development Officer Brian McWilliam visited the Inverurie & District Menโs Shed Open Day & Tool Sale on Sat. Welcomed by SMSA Trustee Archie Peebles, Brian toured the Shed, met members, and saw future plans for the social area ๐
The Greater Glasgow & Clyde Sheds Network at Milngavie & Bearsden Shedโnow open 7 days a week & recently shortlisted for a Kingโs Award ๐

A great visit to Harbourside Men's Shed Irvine helping with a clear-out, sharing laughs, tea, filled rolls & banter. We discussed their brilliant cooking sessions teaching easy meals for men living alone & them hosting the next Ayrshire Sheds Network gathering๐
