We never understood their determination to *say* deaf culture as a way of arguing that we’re not Scottish, linguistically and culturally, because we’re deaf signers.

Neil Gunn was actually influenced by William Sharp under the pseudonym of Fiona Macleod, and it even goes all the way back to Patrick Geddes’ Celtic Revival in Edinburgh via the Edinburgh Celtic circle.

Neil Gunn is one of the most underrated Scottish writers.
