Look at the Doctor Doom's gauntlet more carefully.

Those engravings are Latverian Sorcery Runes ancient mystical symbols channeled directly through Doom's armor. He isn't blocking Thor's attack physically.

He is absorbing it through runic sorcery and dispersing it harmlessly.

In the comics Doom's sorcery combines three distinct schools

Doesn't put a foot wrong yet in terms of character moments. But still so vague as to the actual plot of the movie and why we should care about a totally new baddie (within the MCU canon)
