A huge CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Kim Pearce for being selected as Athletic Trainer of The Year by the CT Athletics Trainers Association!! Thank you Kim for all you do for our student-athletes, parents, coaches, and everyone else at Amity!
June 15 is approaching and many girls soccer prospects and their families are busy doing their homework on schools and programs. They are analyzing roster turnover, staff reputations, quality of academics and even dorm/cafeteria reviews.
But how many of you are looking at the Athletics Department administration? This is an often overlooked yet critical piece of any sports program.
So much of a team’s success and everyday existence is dependent on the support they receive (or don’t receive).
Our most recent department meeting, was extended by at least 20 minutes when our AD asked us to give shoutouts to areas of our department. The shoutouts kept piling up for things like Academics support, Facilities crew, Equipment staff, Sports Information, Business office, Sports Medicine, just to name a few. It made me realize just how incredibly lucky we are to be at W&M. Quite simply I can’t wait to walk through the doors every day to work alongside some of the best people I’ve ever known. It’s a big reason our coach turnover is as low as our student athlete turnover. It’s also a big reason that FIVE of our head coaches are Alumni, and it is NOT the norm everywhere.
Our AD is as good a leader as I’ve ever seen—strategic, compassionate and hands on. He often ends our meetings with this: “ Take care of yourselves, Take care of each other, so you can Take care of our student athletes.” In this increasingly nutty world of college athletics, it’s so reassuring to know that our department’s values align with ours, and that we can still stay true to our mission of providing a World Class education and World Class athletic experience while maintaining our commitment to do what’s right for the student athletes.
As you go through your process, make sure you are examining this important piece. Do your visits include meetings with the administration so that you can determine how you are going to be supported academically, physically, and mentally? Pay close attention to the relationship the coaching staff has with all of these important parts of the department. A program is only going to be as good as the support it is receiving from all of these different aspects of the athletic department. #TheWholePackage #AthleticsWithIntegrity @WMTribeWSOC@TribeAthletics
Unbelievably. Imagine the rage and horror of Ukrainians every day as Russia attacks their people and their nation while the wealthy free world that surrounds them, that they desperately want to be a part of, that could stop it, refuses to act.
I met with a friend of Ukraine, the philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy, who for many years has been spreading the truth about Russia’s war against Ukraine among the French people and across Europe. Truth is an essential part of a just peace because the world must know about every crime committed by Russia, and every crime requires accountability. I thank Bernard and everyone who supports Ukraine and does everything to make sure the wheels of justice turn.
This photo deserves a Pulitzer because it shows Federal agents shooting the Pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Chicago with rubber bullets in the head and spraying him with tear gas in the face when he was just there to pray with everyone!
For slow but technical soccer players, it’s tough to hear that speed matters.
For soft players, it’s tough to hear that physicality matters.
For short players, it’s tough to hear that height matters.
For technical, tactical, but slow players, it’s tough to hear that speed matters.
Recruits and Parents, it’s college soccer, nothing more. It’s a product of elite athleticism and pace will have a higher probability of winning. Elite athleticism and pace will have a higher probability of being recruited. Very few schools have the ability to recruit the total package, (technical, tactical, speed, height, physical, athleticism, mental). 90% of schools rely on elite athleticism and pace.
For the frustrated parent and recruit that’s uncommitted but feels their son or daughter is a good soccer player, it’s tough to hear that this 👆is College Soccer.

Those were quite challenging days in Davos. But there was also a pleasant moment when I received the World Woman Hero award. Every year, the World Woman Foundation honors a woman who demonstrates leadership, strength, and dedication to socially important causes and has a significant impact on the lives of women and girls in different countries around the world.
The award ceremony itself is a unique opportunity to raise the issue of Ukraine once again. I am grateful to the organizers for inviting Forbes to conduct an interview with me on stage. I spoke about Ukrainian women I know who serve in the military, make political decisions, fight for justice, and coordinate powerful initiatives. Because bravery has no gender.
And perhaps for the first time in all these days, I felt such sincere human support from this rather self-focused audience at the Davos forum.
•Athletic Ability
•Skill Level
•Technical skills
•Speed
•Strength
•Endurance
•Soccer IQ (tactical awareness)
All of this is needed at the elite schools MOST kids want. You can get away with not having some of these items but you’re also NOT playing at the elite schools.
Next you have to be seen at…
•ECNL
•MLS Next
•GA
….a club platform with a proven record of sending kids to colleges. Don’t rely on high school soccer to be seen, it’s not happening.
Invest in a highlight video.
Attend ID camps and club college showcases where coaches attend.
Lastly and very important……be realistic with the schools you can potentially attend based on your ability.

So fun to have mildly rudely interrupted her conversation with people she actually knows and likes because I got to meet my soccer heroine yesterday @mlycan12
Truthful guidance with with blunt honesty. A North Star for many!
Ukraine is the only fighting defender of Western civilization.
NATO is a joke.
Germany, Britain and France are useless.
The United States, under the Trump regime, is on invader Russia's side.
This is your annual reminder that every team in the country ends the season on a disappointing note, except one. You are either upset by not qualifying for playoffs, or lose in the playoffs or nationals at some point. No wonder athletes and coaches are so mentally tough. Sports will take you to the brink of emotional meltdowns every year, but they prepare you well for life. #NCAASoccer #D1Sports @WMTribeWSOC
