Jeremy Clarkson has been refused permission to sell food he grew himself, twice. In the same window, central government overruled a Lincolnshire council to put solar panels across 1,214 hectares of grazing land, an area the size of Heathrow.

Run the two columns side by side, because the pattern is the whole story.

He asked to open a restaurant in his own lambing shed. Refused.

He asked for a car park for the people already blocking the lane. Refused.

He asked to sell food produced more than sixteen miles away. Capped at sixteen.

He asked for a barn to store his own harvest, so he would not have to sell at whatever price August offered. Full application required.

He asked about the restaurant again. Enforcement notice, and six weeks judged ample to put the building back as it was.

Now the other column.

Had he covered those same fields in solar panels, the council could have refused and been overruled from Whitehall, as Lincolnshire was in October 2025.

Had he grown maize to feed an anaerobic digester, nobody would have written to anybody.

Had he taken £532 a hectare from Defra to grow a legume fallow, he would have been paid to leave a crop standing that may not be harvested, grazed or sold. Defra cut that rate this year and gave the reason in writing: it had become attractive enough to take land out of food production.

Had he sold the lot to a data centre, a battery park or a Chinese pig unit, all four of which he listed in his column last week, the paperwork would have moved considerably faster than a farm shop's.

There is your planning system. Every use of English farmland is easier to permit than farming.

Two hundred of his acres grew nothing at all this year, and the queue of people who want that ground for something other than food is already forming.

He is not being stopped from developing the countryside. He is being stopped from feeding it.

hi? before i tell u my thoughts, these guys already said such nice things so i just thought of one excuse(?) instead- yesterday huh.. it came out right? (skz log) over there the members were talking srsly but i was the only one who brought up lizards so now it's really..- ofc i also think about the future & i'm really thinking hard about it & i'm working hard too. i just thought that since it was about personal goals it meant talking about things besides our work so i said that in my 40/50s i wanted to raise lizards in a small two story house. ofc i have that dream too & naturally i also have the dream of wanting to work hard as stray kids. i just wanted to say this first so that no one misunderstands. while preparing for this concert & preparing for our comeback the period was really long right? but during that time i'm soso thankful to everyone who waited for us. and even if u happened to leave, to the people who came back again, the people who came looking for us again, thank u soso much & thank u soso much for continuing to stay with us, living up to the name together & staying as stay together. our stays are now 8 years old right? u started elementary school huh? congrats. we're in our 9th year now so we're 2nd graders. we're the seniors okay? anyway i wish u a very verr happy birthday. & from now on the days we'll get to see each other are far far more countless than the life we've lived up until now so i hope u'll continue to look forward to us & walk this road together with us. together with stay we're also on this wonderful paradise like road walking together & we will run hard until both our legs fall off. thank u soso much for enjoying it & tomorrow is the final concert right? we'll run hard until tomorrow & then huh the music bank comeback, i saw that it came out right? when it comes out next week we'll work hard & do our comeback well too.
