In the last 24 hours, the price of the most popular meme coin, #Dogecoin, surged from $0.2 to an incredible $0.43, and its market cap reached $63.1 billion! 📈

🚨 What happens when you ignore #AML rules?

A recent case in the US shows that attempting to covertly exchange crypto while bypassing AML requirements can lead to serious consequences. Trung Nguyen, a resident of Danvers, exchanged over $1 million through his service between 2017 and 2020, accepting cash and sending #Bitcoin. What seemed like a small fee for convenience came at a heavy cost.

🔒 AML (Anti-Money Laundering) is not just a formality. These rules help protect honest users and financial companies from risks associated with illegal transactions. Unfortunately, among Nguyen’s clients were victims of scams and even drug dealers, all because his service operated without a license and failed to report suspicious activities.

👀 Authorities found that in 2018, Nguyen accepted $250,000 in cash from a methamphetamine dealer in 10 separate transactions. In 2019 and 2020, funds came in from victims of romance scams across various states: $325,000 and $60,000 from two other victims. Each was tricked into converting cash into Bitcoin and sending it abroad to scammers.
