If I wrote about my own race relations in America it would be about how my Mother was treated poorly by Black people for being Asian.

It would be about how the only bullies that called me slurs and thought they could walk all over me due to race were always Black, and how I was told I had to tolerate it even if I was the one being agitated. It wasn’t the White people that sought me out to try and shake me down.

Would that be justified? Would that be ok according to the standards of what people are allowed to talk about in the mainstream?

Look me dead in the eyes and tell me that would be ok to talk about.

You would either call me a liar or try to find a way to blame me.

The irony of this is that some of the best people I’ve known have been Black BECAUSE they never focused on the color of their skin, because they decided to just be the best person they could be, defined not by the color of their skin, but the content of their character. They are successful, they are THRIVING, and most of all, they’re happy.

Are you going to tell them that they’re living their lives wrong?

So no, I refuse to fall into this cycle that only serves to keep me confined to what people assume I should do based on the color of my skin. I’m more than that, people are more than that, and I will never change my mind on this.
