I know that I am a minority of one. I don’t believe National Treasury is the problem. To an extent that they act like a de facto presidency, it is the Presidency that is to blame. Cabinet decides on policy. President announces. NT funds. Lay the blame for austerity at Tuynhuis.
And…there it is! Prof “Self-Mutilating” hitting the nail on the head, directly challenging the De Facto Presidency, and asking; “Are we a Treasury-led or a strategy-led (ie; politically-led) country?”
My take: we are, self-evidently, a Treasury-led country because the politicians, have handed over power to unelected bean counters on Madiba Street and their donors in financial services companies. Austerity is anti-democracy and anti-constitutional.
(If you don’t know, “austerity” is the de-funding of public services and assets.)
What terrifies me more about Esethu’s situation is how many more?
How many more Public Servants are suffering in silence ?
And if he can be treated like this then what about our average, Government employee without any powerful political friends and connections?
How many just look the other way?!
Like, we’re in deep trouble!
The scary thing is that there are probably hundreds of government employees who are going through the same thing as Esethu. The perpetrators operate with complete impunity. The people at the forefront of harassing him have probably been doing it for years and getting away with it
@sangxa It’s not that there are no competent people that can lead. There are people that want the likes of Lebeya in leadership positions so they can run rampant.
