The DCDB serves as a vital resource for the ocean mapping community and acts as the long-term archive for initiatives including Seabed 2030, helping ensure that valuable seafloor data remain discoverable and available for future generations.
@NOCnews@SeaKeepers His voyage is a powerful reminder that ocean exploration, scientific research and adventure can go hand in hand.
Congratulations, James, and thank you to everyone involved in supporting this inspiring initiative.
π Congratulations to James Ketchell on becoming the first person to circumnavigate the globe.
The @NOCnews Ambassador not only achieved a remarkable personal milestone, but also supported a range of ocean science initiatives through @SeaKeepers's DISCOVERY Programme.
@NOCnews@SeaKeepers Among them was a contribution to Seabed 2030, with bathymetric data collected during his journey helping build a more complete picture of the ocean floor. π
The meeting will support collaboration and coordinated ocean mapping efforts across the Indo-Pacific region, including a dedicated Seabed 2030 Data Sprint. π

π Save the date for the 2026 GEBCO - General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans Symposium
This October, the global ocean mapping community will come together in Cartagena, Colombia, to exchange knowledge and discuss the future of seabed mapping and ocean science. π¨π΄
The programme will feature strategic discussions, technical sessions, interactive workshops, and action-oriented outcomes aligned with the UN Ocean Decade and preparations for #UNOC4.
@Columbia@LamontEarth@Esri In 2020, Vicki was named among the inaugural @ExplorersClub Fifty - recognising individuals helping advance science, exploration, and our understanding of the planet.
Thank you for your contributions to the global ocean mapping community, Vicki!

Meet Vicki Ferrini - marine geophysicist, geoinformatics expert, and the Head of our Atlantic and Indian Ocean Center, based at @Columbia's @LamontEarth.
@Columbia@LamontEarth Her work in geospatial data management and visualisation was recognised with an @Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award in 2019.
Vicki is a leader in deep sea data management, working to advance the preservation and access of data acquired with submersibles throughout the ocean.
It's a powerful reminder that what lies beneath the ocean surface can influence what happens above it.

What can a previously unexplored Arctic fjord reveal about glacier change? βοΈ
During the GEOEO North of Greenland 2024 Expedition, the Swedish icebreaker #Oden became the first vessel ever to reach and collect scientific data in the remote Victoria Fjord.
The study includes contributions from Professors Martin Jakobsson (Stockholms universitet) and Larry Mayer (Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping / NOAA-UNH Joint Hydrographic Center), co-Heads of #Seabed2030's Arctic and North Pacific Ocean Regional Center. π
