Just driven through Much Birch, south of Hereford. I didn’t see much birch. Then passed the pub, which is called the Axe and Cleaver. A cautionary tale. I feel @JohnFinnemore would appreciate
“The solution lies with giving a young person a trumpet. The solution lies with giving a young person a saxophone. When you do that you give them a dream, an aspiration and a goal.”
We couldn’t agree more! Congratulations on your @BRITs win @EzraCollective 🎺
Exempting military families from VAT on private school fees highlights just how unfair this tax truly is. Why should any working family be penalised for investing in their children's education? If it's wrong for one group, it's wrong for everyone.
Early arrival in glorious @SalisburyCath to practice on the Rolls Royce of organs in what, for me, is the jewel in the crown of cathedrals. What a treat. Looking forward to being joined by @Welly_Music Chapel Choir later on for evensong
Bittersweet day, returning to @Ely_Cathedral in glorious sunshine but to say goodbye to Richard.
Bravi tutti to the musicians who produced a beautiful requiem mass (Faure, plus other treats). He would have loved it. Great to see old friends
There's been a fair bit of discussion about music A-level entries today, so I won't rush into analysing stats, but what bothers me again this year is that a far greater % of students get A*/A/B grades in maths than they do in music. I never got a satisfactory answer to this 1/2
It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion.
He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are not heeded.
The reality is that his entire political future is dependent on fomenting confrontation and division. It is by creating a climate of crisis that he has got where he has.
And some of my former Conservative colleagues have argued the Conservatives should be linking up with Reform! Perhaps this shameful episode will open their eyes to his malevolence.
“It’s not that this approach gives power to the person, it never takes it away” (Rogers, 1978)
Not a bad mindset which could well be adopted by a few world leaders…
@RJSYork@York_Minster 1/2 In my first year as Organ Scholar at the Minster (1986) I took a Sat off to receive my ARCO in Kensington Gore. As I entered the RCO I bumped into Francis Jackson, who asked me why I wasn’t at evensong (with his usual wry smile!)
“They’re doing the Tippet” I replied.
