I remind those angry that FIFA is doing the USMNT favors that FIFA also allowed this in 2002 against the U.S. in a quarterfinal with Germany against the wall.
They owe us one.
Also the proper response from Belgium should have been, “We’re ready for whoever is on the field. Makes no difference to us. We’re prepared to play our best.” Not, “The Royal Belgium blah blah blah is exploring all options.”😂
I hope Balogun scores a hat trick against Belgium tomorrow.
I won’t feel badly about it for one second.
It wasn’t a red card.
VAR should never have told the ref to look at it.
VAR incorrectly used slo mo in the review.
The referee made the wrong call.
The USMNT had to play down a man for 30 minutes.
The red card should have been overturned within 24 hours.
The *only* issue is that FIFA mismanaged the process and communication.
The only ones who have been punished in all of this are Balogun and the USMNT.
Belgium’s response is embarrassing.
Focus on yourselves.
They’re obviously scared of the U.S.
While it wasn’t handled well by FIFA, justice has been served.
And every U.S. fan should cheer like hell for Balogun to absolutely destroy Belgium tomorrow.
And don’t feel bad about it for one second.
If know I won’t.
Go Balogun. Go USA. 🇺🇸
1. It was never a red card
2. The decision was an improper use of VAR
3. Multiple players at this World Cup had studs up challenges (including against us) unpunished
4. The optics of the White house getting involved are bad but the decision is the correct one
Chris Richards on how the USMNT found out: “Ultimately we found out on social media” and was worried it was fake at first.
Team was on the bus together. Around 10 mins later, official confirmation reached the players.
What was Balogun’s reaction? “Lit, you know?” Richard said with a laugh.
Folarin Balogun will be available to play the USMNT’s round of 16 match against Belgium, with his one-game red-card ban that he received against Bosnia and Herzegovina suspended.
Article 27 of FIFA’s disciplinary code states that “the judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure.”
