(1/17) Had a little convo about the rise of indie Dino Crisis inspired games in the 2020s, & decided to post it all here. Here's 15 upcoming & released indie games directly inspired by Dino Crisis.
Going to try to do one game per tweet, starting with one I'm REALLY excited for.
If you have been laid off and are thinking of going indie/forming your own studio be careful! It's a difficult journey - funding will be key and its hard to find right now.
I've spent a lot of my own money and time and haven't been successful...yet! Stay strong and determined ๐
I watched with horror at all the layoffs in our industry last year, and this year is somehow even more horrifying already - and I'm only seeing it second-hand (I know people who were laid off and see companies all around me I know doing this) ๐งต
I'm working on smaller scoped ideas in prototype form for now - as more cool things come together I'll be happy to share on here! If people want to see things more rough and ready let me know and I can post more WIP content ๐
Then the layoffs really picked up steam, even the publishers were hit - some I even had built good speaking terms with were laid off, suddenly and harshly - nobody has been safe
Funding out there has really dried up, and its not looking any healthier so far this year.
We thought our past experience as devs could suffice for the lack of a complete game loop demo, but we were wrong.
Someday we'll talk about the industry wide norm of us indies dealing with 70% of the problems in a project to make a complete demo from our own pockets. Not today.
It's been so nice to see everyone play the demo and have fun! ๐ Yes it has a touch of "jank" ๐- this would be addressed with funding via publisher. Most of what you see is created by myself and this needs a funded team to do dinos justice!๐ฒ
