#UCF Coaching Questions: We’re working to find out the financial details of Gus Malzhan’s reported resignation from UCF — and if a deal was cut to let Gus walk away without him or #FSU having to pay $6M to UCF.

Why? It all comes down to the #contract.

If Gus resigns to take a new job, he’s on the hook for a $6 million payment to UCF, according to an Oct. DBNJ article. If UCF fires him, UCF owes him 75% of $13.75 million, or perhaps a bit less, depending on the date of firing.

If Malzahn resigns for a new job, the paper added: “Malzahn has a duty mitigate buyout amount, in which the buyout is offset, dollar for dollar, based on new employment.”

We’ll ask UCF for a copy of any separation agreement explaining how all this was hammered out. Check back for updates.
