Deeply saddened at the passing of the great Denis Coughlan
An outstanding hurler and footballer, he excelled on the field of play with Cork, Glen Rovers and St. Nick’s, winning so many honours in both codes.
A thorough gentleman and always a pleasure to meet.
Chelsea, Crystal Palace & England goalscorer supreme Bobby Tambling has died. He moved to Cork Celtic, winning their only league title in 74, led them into Europe as player manager and lived out his days amongst us. Old Cork Celtic & Hibs fans join @ChelseaFC in saluting a gent.
I also wish Niall Collins every success in his new role as Minister of State with responsibility for Forestry, Farm Safety and Horticulture. He brings great experience to a wide-ranging role that impacts on rural communities, the economy, climate, forestry and food production.
Pleased to meet President Macron in Paris today.
Very comprehensive discussion ahead of our presidency of the EU, including on competitiveness, the next EU budget, security and enlargement.
We also discussed the excellent bilateral relationship between Ireland and France.
In the history of our island there is no more traumatic event than the Great Famine.
At the National Famine Commemoration today, it is my honour as Taoiseach to pay respects to every person lost in Ireland during the Famine.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh siad.

Ireland has now experienced 16 consecutive quarters of full employment. A remarkable achievement that reflects the strength and resilience of the Irish economy
A powerful leader’s address by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, wrapping up a memorable Ard Fheis for the 100th anniversary of Fianna Fáil. #AF84#100bliain@fiannafailparty
Exactly 100 years ago, a remarkable group of men and women came together to found Fianna Fáil.
Many had sacrificed their youth to the cause of Irish independence.
This evening, I want to thank you, our members and supporters, for all you do for our party.
The Infrastructure Fund is to make sure we can do things like the Metro, more public transport, more roads and in terms of water and energy to make sure we have a grid that is resilient enough to take the increase in population.
