@Sir_Merc@meninga67@DanielCherny It feels odd to have to say aloud that a woman can be a ruckman, batsman, wingman et al when playing one of those sports, but here we are.
@meninga67@DanielCherny Ffs…
This is my frustration with cricket dropping “batsman” in place of the very clunky, very urgh “batter.”
Like a ruckman in footy, the context in which these words are used is not related to gender whatsoever. It’s a discipline/role within a game.
The most infuriating thing in world sport would have to be the outrage when a Ukrainian tennis player doesn’t shake hands with a Russian.
It’s been happening for years (understandably, mind), but it always stirs up a level of commentary which is bewilderingly naive and stupid.
@mikkeybh I’m comfortable Russian athletes are allowed to compete, but Ukrainians shouldn’t be expected to pose for happy snaps and play happy families with them.
Theres a sports washing element to it all which is unsavoury.
Watching #DearEngland I cant help but think, ‘Joseph Fiennes was in ‘Shakespeare In Love’ - a film which won Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture, among other awards - surely delivering the majority of this performance must be painful for him…’
It’s Poundland Ted Lasso.
@TheRochaSays Bumblebee is both the best live action Transformers film AND the lowest grossing. Box office returns ≠ quality.
As for reviewers finding good films an audience, yeah, thats your profession’s responsibility. If a film is good, say so and encourage people to see it.
