I am seeing it EVERYWHERE, but especially amongst friends who repeat headlines without any further investigation.

"Can you believe Trump denied Western North Carolina disaster relief aid?!"

What the hell are you talking about?

He just approved $1.4 BILLION to rebuild/restore homes here.

Billions with a B.

They had no idea.

But somewhere they read a headline that President Trump straight up denied disaster relief and never found the article about the Trump administration giving us billions for home rebuilding...

...because CNN, NYTimes, Washington Post, MSNBC, the Wall Street Journal, NONE OF THEM decided to cover it!

I'm seeing this EVERYWHERE I LOOK.

The "Maryland man"

The "deported 2 year old American citizen"

The "DOGE cuts are slowing down Western North Carolina recovery!!!"

It's incessant, insidious, WEAPONIZED EMPATHY.

I can't even IMAGINE the number of stories I must have believed over the years that left out a key detail for the exact purpose of weaponizing something good, my own empathy and kindness, against me.

I don't know how they get away with it!

...and I don't know how I never saw it before.

I'm left wondering...

...what other stories did I believe that were lies, twisted into making me angry, instead of making me THINK?

Because as soon as you start thinking, researching, learning...

The gig is up.

Headline: "Trump denies disaster aid"

Truth: "Oh FEMA dropped the debris removal reimbursement rate in Western North Carolina from 100% to 90% because all the right-of-ways and major waterways no longer have debris in them!"

It was examples, just like this over the past 8 months, that slowly, over time, woke me up to one simple truth:

I was just a puppet, and the media held the strings to my own empathy and used it against me.

Once you see it, you can't unsee it...
