"Don't tell me if we try to tax them, the country is finished, because for people who don't have fancy jobs like us, it's finished anyway"
What a quote, and completely true.
Genuinely, I still don’t understand what billionaires think the final outcome of all this is. If nobody has a living wage, they can’t buy your products, pay for your services, or rent the properties being owned and hoarded. At that point, does the whole thing not just collapse??
Apologists for Starmer are notably avoiding the fact he ran for Labour leadership on a relatively left-wing platform he clearly had no intention of implementing. A very cynical move which has damaged already low levels of public faith in politics even further.
I’ll never forget Keir Starmer’s island of strangers speech and how he fanned the flames of hateful anti-immigration rhetoric that is radicalising people & making the country less safe for us all. What a legacy to leave behind as a Labour leader.
NEW: Andy Burnham is taking advice from a trio of top economists: Andy Haldane, former chief economist at Bank of England, Richard Hughes, former director of OBR, and Jim O’Neill, former chair of Goldman Sachs.
His team will hope this helps reassure the financial markets which might be a bit jittery when they first open tomorrow morning - if Burnham wins in Makerfield it brings him one step closer to Downing Street.
First reported by @AArmstrong_says, @alexwickham & @Joe_Mayes. Smart move to make sure FT and Bloomberg get wind of it!
that’s the question isn’t it. what WILL she do? there are no youth clubs for her to attend. food, cinema tickets, any sort of third space activity is all too expensive. their parents are underpaid, saturday jobs don’t exist any more, children have truly been abandoned by the govt
This is absolutely insane.
The suffragettes used far more extreme tactics than Palestine Action.
They planted bombs, burned down private homes and smashed up art galleries.
They killed five people!
Her outrageous judgement is based on absurd historical ignorance.
