দুর্গাপূজায় আমিষ খাওয়া নিয়ে অহেতুক জল ঘোলা করার চেষ্টা চলছে। তার থেকেও বড় আশ্চর্যের বিষয়—বিশ্ব হিন্দু পরিষদ যা বলেনি, সেটাও তাদের মুখে বসিয়ে দিয়ে কেউ কেউ বড় বড় ধর্মীয় জ্ঞান দিচ্ছেন!

প্রথম কথা, বাংলার দুর্গাপূজার ইতিহাস উত্তর বা পশ্চিম ভারতের নবরাত্রির খাদ্যাচারের সঙ্গে এক করে দেখলে চলবে না। ভারতবর্ষে একই দেবীর আরাধনা অঞ্চল, সম্প্রদায়, শাস্ত্র, কুলাচার ও পারিবারিক রীতিভেদে বহু বৈচিত্র্যের মধ্য দিয়ে পালিত হয়েছে।

বাংলায় দুর্গাপূজার ইতিহাস বহু শতাব্দী পুরনো। মধ্যযুগীয় বাংলায় দুর্গার আরাধনা নিয়ে রঘুনন্দনের দুর্গাপূজাতত্ত্ব - এর মতো সংস্কৃত পদ্ধতিগ্রন্থ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঐতিহাসিক সূত্র। পরবর্তী সময়ে জমিদার ও বনেদি পরিবারগুলির হাত ধরে দুর্গাপূজা আরও জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ সামাজিক উৎসবে পরিণত হয়।

এবার আসি আমিষের প্রসঙ্গে।

ষষ্ঠী, সপ্তমী ও অষ্টমীতে বহু বাঙালি পরিবারে নিরামিষ খাওয়ার প্রচলন আছে। বিশেষ করে যাঁদের বাড়িতে পারিবারিক দুর্গাপূজা হয়, তাঁদের বহু পরিবারে এই নিয়ম প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম চলে আসছে। ছোটবেলায় আমাদের অনেকেরই অভিজ্ঞতা—বাড়িতে পুজোর কারণে আমিষ রান্না হয়নি, তাই বাইরে গিয়ে মাছ-মাংস খেয়েছি। এটাই তো বাংলার বাস্তব লোকাচার!

কিন্তু নবমীর দিন মাছ ও খাসির মাংস খাওয়া বাংলার বহু পরিবারের বহু পুরনো ঐতিহ্য। এর মধ্যে আজ নতুন করে আবিষ্কার করার মতো কিছু নেই।

আর দশমী?

অনেক বাঙালি পরিবারে জোড়া ইলিশ, রুই বা অন্যান্য মাছ দিয়ে দশমীর বিশেষ ভোগ বা পারিবারিক আচার এখনও চলে। বিশেষত পূর্ববঙ্গীয় ঐতিহ্য বহনকারী পরিবারগুলির মধ্যে দশমীতে দেবীকে মাছ নিবেদনের রীতি নথিভুক্ত হয়েছে।

এমনকি কলকাতার বহু বনেদি বাড়ির দুর্গাপূজাতেও মাছ নিবেদনের ঐতিহ্য রয়েছে। কিছু পরিবারে সপ্তমী থেকে দশমী পর্যন্ত বিভিন্ন ধরনের মাছ ভোগে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

কারণ বাংলার শাক্ত ঐতিহ্যে মা দুর্গা শুধুমাত্র নিরামিষ দেবী, এই ধারণা সর্বত্র প্রযোজ্য নয়।

শাক্ত উপাসনার বহু ধারায় দেবীকে শক্তিরূপে আরাধনা করা হয়। পূর্ব ভারতের কিছু অঞ্চলে দুর্গা ও অন্যান্য শক্তিরূপের উপাসনার সঙ্গে পশুবলি এবং আমিষ নিবেদনের ঐতিহ্যও ঐতিহাসিকভাবে যুক্ত। বাংলার বিভিন্ন শক্তিপীঠ ও মন্দিরে আজও তার বিভিন্ন রূপ দেখা যায়।

এমনকি খাদ্য-নৃতত্ত্ব বিষয়ক গবেষণাতেও বাংলার বিভিন্ন দেবদেবীর উদ্দেশে মাছ নিবেদনের কথা এবং কিছু শাক্ত আচারে বলির ঐতিহাসিক উপস্থিতির উল্লেখ রয়েছে।

তাই কেউ যদি নবরাত্রির নয় দিন উপবাস করেন—মা তাঁরও।

কেউ যদি সাত্ত্বিক নিরামিষ ভোগ দেন—মা তাঁরও।

কেউ যদি অষ্টমীতে উপবাস করে নবমীতে মাছ-মাংস খান—মা তাঁরও।

কেউ যদি পারিবারিক রীতি অনুযায়ী মাছ নিবেদন করেন—মা তাঁরও।

এটাই ভারতের ধর্মীয় ঐতিহ্যের সৌন্দর্য—এক দেবী, অথচ আরাধনার কত শত রূপ!

রাজস্থান, গুজরাট, উত্তর ভারত, দক্ষিণ ভারত, অসম, ওড়িশা এবং বাংলার পুজোর আচার এক হবে—এমন কোনও বাধ্যবাধকতা নেই। বাংলার শাক্তাচারকে অন্য অঞ্চলের খাদ্যাচারের মাপকাঠিতে বিচার করারও কোনও যুক্তি নেই।

আর একটা কথা স্পষ্ট হওয়া দরকার—

মন্দিরে আমিষ ভোগ দেওয়া, বাড়িতে আমিষ খাওয়া এবং পুজোর প্যান্ডেলের পাশে আমিষ খাবারের দোকান—এই তিনটি বিষয়কে এক করে দেখা সম্পূর্ণ অজ্ঞতা। প্রত্যেকটির নিজস্ব সামাজিক ও ধর্মীয় প্রেক্ষাপট রয়েছে।

যাঁরা সত্যিই দুর্গাপূজার সঙ্গে যুক্ত, যাঁরা প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম বাড়ির পুজো দেখেছেন, পুরোহিতের নির্দেশে আচার পালন করেছেন, তাঁরা এই বৈচিত্র্য জানেন।

সবচেয়ে হাস্যকর বিষয় হল, যাঁদের দুর্গাপূজার সঙ্গে কোনও বাস্তব সম্পর্ক নেই, এমনকি ঈশ্বরবিশ্বাসও নেই, তাঁরাই আজ হঠাৎ হিন্দু ধর্মের খাদ্যাচারের সার্টিফিকেট দিতে শুরু করেছেন!

ধর্ম নিয়ে মতামত দেওয়া সবার অধিকার। কিন্তু ইতিহাস না জেনে, লোকাচার না জেনে এবং বাংলার শাক্ত ঐতিহ্য না বুঝে ধর্মের নামে ফতোয়া দেওয়া হাস্যকর।

আর যারা বিশ্ব হিন্দু পরিষদের নামে এমন কথা ছড়িয়ে রাজনৈতিক জল ঘোলা করছেন, তাঁদের আগে নিজেদের বক্তব্যের উৎসটা প্রকাশ করা উচিত। VHP আমিষ বা নিরামিষ খাওয়ানি কোন মন্তব্য করেনি, তাদের নামে মিথ্যা বলা হচ্ছে..

বাংলার দুর্গাপূজা কোনও একরঙা সংস্কৃতি নয়।
এটি শাক্ত, স্মার্ত, বৈষ্ণব, লোকাচার, পারিবারিক ঐতিহ্য এবং বাংলার নিজস্ব সংস্কৃতির শতাব্দীপ্রাচীন সমন্বয়।

মা দুর্গা কারও একার নন।

যিনি উপবাস করেন, তাঁরও মা দুর্গা।
যিনি নিরামিষ ভোগ দেন, তাঁরও মা দুর্গা।
যিনি নবমীতে মাছ-মাংস খান, তাঁরও মা দুর্গা।
যিনি দশমীতে জোড়া ইলিশ দিয়ে মাকে বিদায় জানান, তাঁরও মা দুর্গা।

তাই অযথা বাংলার দুর্গাপূজার ঐতিহ্যকে অন্য অঞ্চলের রীতির সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে জল ঘোলা করবেন না।

আর ধর্মের জ্ঞান দেওয়ার আগে অন্তত ধর্মটার ইতিহাসটা পড়ে নিন।

অজস্র মিথ্যার ফুলঝুরি ছড়াতে গিয়ে আবারও মাননীয়া মতুয়া সমাজের আরাধ্য গুরু, পূর্ণব্রহ্ম পূর্ণাবতার শ্রীশ্রী গুরুচাঁদ ঠাকুর কে ঠাকুর সম্বোধন না করে নাম ধরে ডাকার স্পর্ধা দেখালেন।

আসলে তিনি বুঝে গেছেন, এবার হাওয়া খারাপ। তাই সভা-সমাবেশ থেকে সাংবিধানিক পদাধিকারীদেরও যেমন অপমান করতে ছাড়ছেন না, তেমনই মিথ্যাচার করতেও পিছপা হচ্ছেন না। এর পর কখনো হয়তো দাবি করে বসবেন, গৌড় সাম্রাজ্যও তাঁরই তৈরি, সম্রাট শশাঙ্কের নয়...

It is utterly shameful and a blatant assault on our Democracy that even after the Historic Order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India mandating Judicial oversight of the SIR exercise in West Bengal, under the able leadership of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, the Mamata Banerjee Govt continues to meddle and manipulate the process.

These WhatsApp messages from the Administrative group suggest that still a backdoor modus operandi is being established for continuous favoritism and fraud:-

"The ADM is directing all BDOs to appoint Liaison Officers to "attach" with honorable judicial officers, with a briefing of such Liaison Officers scheduled at the DM office."
And then there's this "VC instruction" making ADJs 'understand' rules for electors with partial or problematic documents..."

The Chief Secretary, acting on direct orders from the Chief Minister seem to be trying to influence the DEOs, EROs, and AEROs to subvert Judicial independence.
The TMC regime's desperation to rig the electoral rolls, knows no bounds, trampling on the Supreme Court's mandate and the sanctity of free and fair elections.

I urge the Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and the Election Commission of India to immediately take cognizance of this grave interference, investigate these communications, and intervene decisively to safeguard the integrity of the SIR process.

If I had to sit across the table with global FIIs and present the India story 🇮🇳, this is how I would do it.

Dear FIIs,

Here is a country where foreign institutional investors (you) have taken out close to USD 30 billion of equity capital over the last two years and yet the system held steady. There were no capital controls, no emergency restrictions, no policy panic. Markets absorbed the selling, FX reserves remained strong and policy continuity was preserved. That resilience itself is a signal.

Here is a country that, post COVID, chose fiscal discipline when much of the world chose fiscal drift. Over the last four to five years, India has followed a clearly articulated consolidation path, steadily reducing deficits rather than oscillating between stimulus and shock. The medium-term framework remains anchored close to 4%, with current guidance at around 4.3 percent by FY27.

Here is a country that proved discipline does not mean sacrificing growth. For the third consecutive year, government capital expenditure has crossed Rs 10 lakh crore, focused squarely on productive assets. Roads, railways, ports, power transmission, defence manufacturing, logistics corridors. This is capex that compounds into productivity, not spending that disappears into consumption.

Here is a country that is visibly strengthening its sovereign balance sheet. India’s government debt stands at around 60% of GDP, with a stated intent to gradually move toward 50% by 2030. Put that in context, the US today operates at roughly 120% debt to GDP. China is moving toward 100% plus, driven by local government and quasi-fiscal stress. Brazil remains in the mid-90s, with upward pressure. Direction matters, and India’s direction is clearly different.

Here is a country that combines macro discipline with one of the strongest consumption engines in the world. India is a 1.4-billion-population market, with rising per-capita income, a growing middle class, rapid urbanisation and improving access to credit and digital payments. Consumption is not dependent on leverage alone. It is driven by demographics, income formalisation and aspiration. This creates a long runway for demand across housing, autos, consumer goods, travel, financial services, and healthcare.

Here is a country where inflation, despite global shocks, remains among the lowest globally, hovering around 2–3 percent. In a world dealing with sticky inflation, supply disruptions, and geopolitical pressures, India has managed price stability without choking growth. That gives policymakers room to act and investors confidence in real returns.

Here is a country that has executed reforms which permanently altered economic behaviour. The UPI digital payments infrastructure has created a real-time, near-zero-cost financial backbone processing billions of transactions every month. It has formalised consumption, widened the tax base, reduced friction, and improved transparency.

Here is a country that introduced real capital discipline through the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. For the first time, lenders have time-bound resolution, capital has credible exit mechanisms, and promoters face consequences. This reform changed credit culture, recovery expectations and risk pricing across the system.

Here is a country where tax reform is now visible in cash flows, not just policy papers. Under GST, India collected a record Rs 22.08 lakh crore in FY25, with an average monthly run-rate of around Rs 1.84 lakh crore. Collections have more than doubled in five years, reflecting deeper formalisation, stronger compliance, and a broader economic base. This is quiet compounding at work.

Here is a country that moved beyond slogans to execution in manufacturing through Production Linked Incentive programs. The total approved PLI outlay is about Rs 1.97 lakh crore (roughly USD 28 billion). triggering incremental production exceeding Rs 16.5 lakh crore and creating over 12 lakh direct and indirect jobs.

Here is a country that cleaned up its financial system instead of postponing the problem. NPAs were recognised, banks recapitalised, governance tightened, and balance sheets repaired. Today, the banking system is among the strongest it has been in decades, capable of supporting sustainable credit growth.

Here is a country where political stability and policy continuity have become a competitive advantage. Economic direction does not change every election cycle. Large infrastructure projects get completed. Reforms are compounded rather than reversed. For long-term capital, this stability is invaluable.

Here is a country that is honest about its shortcomings. India still faces challenges - air pollution, especially in urban centres; civic sense and urban discipline which require long-term investment in education and behaviour; last-mile infrastructure where road quality and urban planning still need improvement and regional inequality, which must be addressed as growth broadens. Every large economy has its flaws. India’s are visible, acknowledged, and 'hopefully' be part of the policy agenda as we move forward.

Here is a country that, in an uncertain global environment, offers something rare - predictability at scale, with the humility to improve where it falls short.

India today is not a short-term trade.
It is a structural allocation, with upside driven by reform, consumption, and execution and risks that are visible, not hidden.

Their argument: LLMs can only perform a certain number of computations per response. That number is fixed by the model's architecture. If a task requires more computation than that ceiling, the model will either fail or hallucinate. This isn't a maybe. It's baked into the math of how these systems work

They use the Traveling Salesman Problem as an example. Ask an AI agent to verify whether a claimed route is actually the shortest among all possible routes and the verification alone requires exponential time computation. The model physically cannot process it correctly
So every AI agent demo you've seen was running carefully selected tasks that stay under the complexity ceiling. Meanwhile the real world tasks businesses actually need automated blow right past it

Now this doesn't mean AI is useless. Even if advancement stopped today, AI would still transform how we work. The tools we have right now are genuinely powerful for the right applications

But it does make me wonder about something

If OpenAI is truly on the verge of AGI, why are so many senior employees leaving to start their own companies? You're months away from the biggest technological breakthrough in human history and you're going to take equity in a risky startup instead?

These people see the ceiling. And they're positioning accordingly

The gap between AI marketing and AI math keeps getting wider. Doesn't mean AI won't change everything. But probably not the way the fundraising decks promised.
