"Take every possible measure to get me out of this place."
With these words, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya delivered an urgent appeal to his lawyer and to the lawyer from Physicians for Human Rights during their visit on July 14, 2026.
Dr. Hussam reported that he is being held in solitary confinement and that he was subjected to a new assault by prison guards following his lawyer's previous visit on July 2, leaving him with bruises on his hand.
He also confirmed that he underwent medical examinations and X-rays, but was never informed of the results. Meanwhile, the Israeli authorities continue to refuse to disclose his medical reports and records and continue to deny access to an independent physician to examine him, maintaining the withholding of information regarding his medical condition since the day of his arrest.
The continued detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya without charge or trial, his placement in solitary confinement, the assault against him following his lawyer's visit, and the denial of independent medical care constitute a real and immediate threat to his life and safety.
Our demand is clear: the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.
Khamenei’s Last Move is an excellent documentary for understanding Iran’s internal power dynamics, the competing circles, and how those struggles shape the country’s foreign-policy choices.
Worth watching if you want to understand Iran beyond headlines.

@antloewenstein P.s: i liked your tweet/ post before i listen to it, because i didn't want to be late. It was a way to pressure myself, but it didn't work as fast 🙃 Never crossed my mind, it wouldn't be available anymore😢 A weight off my shoulder 😊💐
@antloewenstein By the time i was ready to listen to it (4 days later?), i discovered the episode has been removed/ locked. I'm writing here publicly, to shame myself 😊😅 Hope i'll have a chance to hear it, someday. Hopefully i'm forgiven 😃😇
@antloewenstein Because i knew Bassem Youssef wasn't allowed in Australia recently (he had to postpone his tour) and i wasn't ready to hear about it. It's like a deja-vu and maybe i was worried i might be triggered. Didn't want to go back in time, and recall unpleasant memories.
@antloewenstein Mr. Loewenstein, i've got a confession to make: i didn't watch the fascism episode (the one that had Bassem Youssef on it's thumbnail), even though i liked your post. Usually, i watch your podcast, every week, in the first 24 hours, but i kept postponing this one.
