Fort Casey features two of the last known examples of 10-inch disappearing guns. Boasting almost an eight mile range, these guns could fire two rounds in under a minute when operated efficiently. The recoil propelled the guns down to the loading position.
Spent some time at Fort Casey Historical State Park. The Washington National Guard's 9th and 12th Coast Artillery Companies, re-designated the 25th and 28th Companies upon mobilization, served here during World War I. @WANationalGuard#history#WWI#fortcasey#coastartillery
@TyrellMayfield Isn’t it also worth considering how long deterrence succeeded before it failed? How much time did it buy the Ukrainian military to transform into a more capable force? And on a larger European scale, couldn’t one argue that deterrence is still in play and possibly succeeding?
The box included priceless photos from France and Calexico, a 41st Infantry Division patch, and a pass form authorizing travel complete with bread tickets. Every item enables us to tell a deeper, richer story about the Soldiers in the Washington National Guard.
Met with the inspirational Buffalo Soldier Museum in Tacoma two weeks ago. They shared with us a box of Washington National Guard cavalry materials including this beautiful pre-WWI Troop B “Tacoma City Troop” guidon. @WANationalGuard@Tacoma_History#history
Formally organized in Tacoma in 1889, Troop B served along the Mexican border in 1916 and in France during WWI. Its lineage remains intact via the current Troop A, 1-303rd Cavalry. So grateful to the Buffalo Soldier Museum for helping us tell the WA National Guard story.
Signed by friends and family, these flags were given to Japanese soldiers upon their departure for war. The current owners wish to reconnect this item with its Japanese family. Anyone able to translate or help with this?
Last week proved fascinating at the Washington National Guard Museum. It started when the relative of a World War II-era 161st Infantry officer forwarded this image of a yosegaki hinomaru from the family collection. #WWII#history@WANationalGuard
@ArmyUPress Looking forward to this staff ride when complete! The @WANationalGuard's 161st Infantry, blooded at Guadalcanal, participated in this campaign while attached to the 37th ID. Tough slog advancing on Bartley Ridge and Tank Hill.
Presented my research on the Washington National Guard's fallen in World War I this past week. A humbling, sometimes haunting, and always fascinating experience to document and preserve these soldiers' sacrifices. https://t.co/Y6u2gtG8WA
Today Maj. Samantha Domingue made history by becoming the first @WANationalGuard female to complete the @USArmy Ranger School at Ft. Benning. She is now the 110th female soldier to graduate from the elite school. #RLTW#Rangers#Congratulations#WAGuard
This is hard to watch. So much of my time and energy spent advising the great country of Ukraine and its Armed Forces over the past year. So many of my comrades in arms now in the fight of their lives. My thoughts are with them. #Ukraine#StandWithUkraine
