Day 5 of kelp surveys, now in SE Scotland near St Abbs. Very lush and extensive kelp stands, gazillions of juvenile fish and calm seas and sunny skies. The fieldwork gods are still on our side (for now) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🌱 🌊 ☀️ 🐠 🧪

Through the year with #Saccorhiza polyschides: #Fieldwork pictures from the same sample site in July vs. November (early this week with the #BEECH team). S. poly is a pseudo-annual species and lives for about 12-18 months 🌱🌊⏰ #kelp #seaweed

Lovely to see Asparagopsis armata growing so well in the lab (thanks to @Fizzy_Storm!). This gorgeous red filamentous seaweed (aka harpoon weed) produces bromoform which inhibits methane release when eaten by cows! Mooovelous work by this seaweed! 🐄🐂🥴

The aqueous phase is lighter in colour than UK sargassum species, but (I'm informed) is just as smelly! 👨‍🔬🇬🇧🇲🇽
