Syp has been pioneering remote water sampling since 2020. Since then our early-adopters have had remarkable successes, but also setbacks as we've learned Syp's limits.
We're pleased to announce that we've been taking our learnings from these early deployments, and are now in production with Syp MkII.
We are aiming for the first MkII deliveries next month. Syp MkII features:
> longer battery life and a new water-proof Li-ion rechargeable battery
> additional water proofing, fully-sealed connectors and IP65 rated electronics, including new buttons
To our partners around the world: thanks for pushing the limits of what we can learn, in places never before possible.
We're also aiming to offer a refurbishment option to bring our fleet of Syp MkI units up to MkII specs.
More soon!

A sad day for earth science in New Zealand. More than 10% of the jobs to go at GNS Science, the national research institute for earth science. https://t.co/gYcyxeAbMJ
So cool when science comes to life!
The theory: tiny magnetic particles (trapped in cave carbonates) mark extreme flooding in the past ๐ง
The practice: deploy magnetic collectors in cave stream.. ๐ค
The result: check out those beauties! ๐

Available: PhD positions for Australian domestic students on coral-microalgae genomics, genetic engineering & hybridisation. Send me an email if interested. Start early 2024. Scholarship application @Macquarie_Uni. Collaborators are @dorkyM @spectacularia @BriarLlo@MattRNitschke
@DAAD_Germany@educationnz The exchange aims to improve our analytical methods and interpretations of trace metals included in cave carbonates, which we use to study past hydroclimate.
What a start to my research fellow role with @wegeochem and @waikato! I spent a fantastic month in August/September with @swinnnyy and Aaron Mielke at @UniHeidelberg, working on speleothem trace metal measurements and method development ๐ฌ๐๐
Thanks so much for hosting, we're looking forward to your visit to NZ and another exchange next year! Hugely grateful for this opportunity funded through the PPP mobility agreement between @DAAD_Germany and @educationnz ๐๐ณ๐ฟ๐ฉ๐ช
Nothing like changing 58 vials in 4C air.
Please let me know if you found the feeling in my fingertips... because I lost it.
Plus side - the Syp chugged along for 6 lonely months sampling 31 (?!) atmospheric rivers over the Sierras. See you in a year Syp, you know what to do.
